Tomy Drissi Passes Trans Am Milestone With 200th Start in Watkins Glen Doubleheader

  • Tomy Drissi surpassed the 200-start mark in Trans Am competition at Watkins Glen International
  • Drissi earned fifth place finishes in the TA class on both days of the doubleheader
  • He remains third in the championship standings with three races left in the 2026 season

2009 Trans Am champion Tomy Drissi made his 200th career series start during a busy doubleheader weekend at Watkins Glen International, earning two top-five TA class finishes in the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Petersen Automotive Museum/Motul Chevrolet Camaro along the way in Rounds 8 and 9. As a result, he hung onto third in the championship standings as the series enters its summer break.

After lightning delayed the start of Saturday’s race and forced drivers to start on a wet track, Drissi quickly went from fourth place on the grid to third at the green flag and maintained the spot in an exciting battle with Chris Dyson. But while the track was still drying, he slid off track and into the tire barrier in Turn 6 on Lap 13, damaging the front of the car and ending his day early. Fortunately, Drissi was unhurt, but the team would have a busy day ahead of them to get ready in time for Sunday’s race.

Drissi would switch to his backup car for the second leg of the doubleheader and roll off sixth. He would take on an early battle with Jon DeGaynor, eventually making a thrilling pass on DeGaynor in the Inner Loop just before the halfway point to take fifth place. He’d maintain that position the rest of the way, earning his sixth top-five finish in nine races so far this season.

“A huge thank you to the entire Drissi Motorsports team for all their support this weekend,” said Drissi. “We have a lot of work to do before the next race because of the accident on Saturday, but they did an amazing job making sure I was ready to go on Sunday. It’s incredible to say that I’ve now started more than 200 Trans Am races, this is a great series with amazing cars, teams, and drivers, and I love being here. I can’t wait for the rest of the season!”

With Trans Am on break until September, Drissi wraps up the summer with a 15-point advantage over David Pintaric for third in the TA standings. During the busiest stretch of the season—four races in just under a month between Indianapolis, Road America, and the Watkins Glen doubleheader—he scored three top-five finishes. His 101-point performance at Road America made him one of just three drivers to have a triple-digit points day in the TA class this season, joining only Matthew Brabham and Paul Menard.
