New Season Brings Change for Sheehan and LTK as TA2 Roars Into Action at Sebring

BOW, NH. – February 27, 2019 - As the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship season gets underway at Sebring International Raceway this weekend down in Central Florida, March 1-3, there has been an exciting change for the LTK Insulation Technologies driver Tom Sheehan. Making the huge switch from running a Chevrolet Camaro to a Ford Mustang in the competitive TA2 Class for the upcoming championship. Sheehan will drive the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang for the 2019 season.

“I’m feeling fortunate and blessed to have our 2019 TA2 season getting underway,” Tom Sheehan, driver of the No. 97 LTK Ford Mustang, stated earlier this week. “We’ve made some changes following the 2018 year-end. Changing our chassis to Cope and our engine program to Ford. Each decision was made looking forward to this new season."

Teaming up with the hugely experienced and respected chassis builder Mike Cope Racing Enterprises has clearly given LTK and Sheehan a boost. He went on to share, "Mike Cope welcomed us like family. His organization has been outstanding, getting us familiar with the Cope platform. We are confident we made a great move."

Although switching from GM to Ford, there is welcome continuity in the technical department at LTK. Regarding the move, Sheehan commented, "Carl Wegner remains our engine builder and the move to the Ford package suites me fine. We tested a little and we were happy with the change. I am confident that our team bettered ourselves. We build on our accomplishments, we retain our gains and add to our package with the new looks."

With his feet firmly on the ground, Sheehan was nevertheless understandably optimistic about the 2019 events to come, "There is a long season ahead. I am physically ready, mentally ready, and in real time - nuts and bolts. We are ready to compete." Talking about the team, he concluded "Jamie, myself Jeff, Seth, and Matt [We] are ready to get the familiar LTK insulation technologies, yellow No. 97 machine on the grid, it’s what I love. I have surrounded myself with people that believe in me. It feels great.”

A hearty entry of thirty cars for the season opener race of the TA2 field will mean that the racing is as close and exciting as ever. The Trans Am race weekends are largely paired with SVRA events and the spectator experience is a growing attraction.

The action at Sebring starts on Friday with practice and official qualifying on Saturday. Green flag for the TA2 Race powered by AEM is scheduled for 11:10 a.m. on Sunday, March 3.
