Ruman Scores 2nd Place at Ryan Companies US Trans Am #JedCophamTribute
Munroe Falls, Ohio – Amy Ruman and team headed North this past weekend to Brainerd International Raceway (BIR), MN, for Round 3 of the Trans Am Championship presented by Pirelli – the Ryan Companies US, Inc. presents the Jed Copham Tribute.
Ruman qualified the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette in third position for the hot and sunny Sunday afternoon race. She was focused on one mission – to gain vital Championship points, and she did that by capturing second place.
Ruman had a great start right at the green flag to take over second place from Tomy Drissi, slotting in behind Francis Jr. by turn one. Francis Jr. developed a lead over Ruman, Drissi, and Dyson while those three battled it out lap after lap. Dyson broke on lap 8, while Drissi and Ruman continued to fight. Ruman had a slight advantage for a while, but as temperatures rose and the track got slippery, Drissi chipped away, eventually making his way past Ruman on lap 16. Francis Jr. then had a problem and retired on lap 20, with Drissi inheriting the lead, Ruman in second, and Gregg in third. That would be the final order as the checkered flag flew.
“It was a good battle with Tomy,” Ruman said. “We had a great car for the first half of the race, I just wish we had more mid-race and at the end. We lost a lot of rear grip, and then I lost most of the power steering with about 12 laps to go. Giving Jed this tribute race was our pleasure today.”
This was Ruman’s fifth podium finish at BIR and her second podium of 2020, having taken home third at the Sebring opener. Ernie Francis Jr. leads the TA class championship after Round 3 with 90 points, followed by Tomy Drissi in second – 86, Amy Ruman in third – 74, Simon Gregg in forth – 67, and Humaid Masaood in fifth – 61 points. The Series travels to Road America, WI, August 6-8th. Please visit gotransam.com for ticket, full schedule, and all other weekend information.
