Gregg Puts the Focus on COTA Trans Am Weekend in Texas
October 30, 2020

Simon Gregg will be crowned as the first ever Trans Am presented by Pirelli West Coast Championship XtremeGT Class Champion when the season reaches its finale, but the popular Floridian driver's focus will be on the National Championship in the TA Class. Simon set track records in the AMG Mercedes-Benz GT both at Thunderhill Raceway Park and at Sonoma with fastest lap times of 1:47:257 and 1:41:226 respectively. At Thunderhill, Simon's time was quicker than TA Class Greg Pickett's best and the fastest of any car on the track that weekend.
At Circuit of The Americas, Simon will be behind the wheel of the more familiar No. 59 Derhaag Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro at COTA, a team that has seen him garner 133 Championship points to date.
At the beginning of the season, Simon switched from the Corvette bodied Chevrolet to the Camaro, these days a more conventional and popular racer. The new car is also more powerful, something that has propelled Simon to a string of impressive results and an overall P4 out of 22 starters in the Drivers' Championship. The brilliantly rescheduled season now means there are five races to go, with the one at COTA followed by double-headers at both Road Atlanta November 19 - 22 and at Laguna Seca December 4 - 6.
"We've got five races to go and I'm only a handful of points behind Chris Dyson and Ernie Francis Jr. - the final races should be very competitive and good racing,” stated Simon.
Simon went on, "All the drivers and teams have to give tremendous kudos to John Clagget and his team. To get a full programme of 11 races in the midst of the present situation is a tremendous achievement. I can't wait to get back behind the wheel.
To keep fresh in the Mercedes AMG racecar and to get some extra laps in early on the weekend, Simon will test the GT3 car at COTA and Road Atlanta.
The weekend at COTA is billed as the 2020 United States National Vintage Championships with a variety of appealing Motorsports on show. Tickets are available via the SVRA website here: https://svra.com/events/2020-
The event at the Michelin Raceway Road Atlanta is being presented as the Road Atlanta Grand Prix, details are online here: https://svra.com/events/2020-
Given the circumstances, it is a fantastic series of events on the season’s horizon. It's great to be racing again and we are all looking forward to the action. Download the new Trans Am App and watch the race events live from the Google PlayStore or Apple, click here.
