More About Driver: Thomas Merrill won his first kart title in 1998 when he was just 11, and followed that year’s performance with six consecutive titles.
At 16, he won his first regional championship, again repeating the title victory the
following year. He then went on to take back-to-back national titles in 2005
and 2006. The 2006 and 2007 race seasons were spent racing formula
cars in SCCA and the Pacific F2000, clinching a championship and Rookie
of the Year award, as well as setting three track records and clinching over
15 wins. In 2008, he made the transition to Grand Am with PR1
Motorsports, campaigning a Pontiac GXP.R in the GT class.
In 2010, he made his second appearance at the 24 Hours of Daytona, in a
Dinan BMW M6. Since then he’s raced in various professional endurance
sports car races and has focused on growing his driver coaching business,
Thomas Merrill Motorsports. Thomas began coaching Richard Diehl back
in 2013 racing with the Porsche Racing Club, and the two have now
become teammates in the Trans Am Championship racing together in the
TA2 class.
