Trans Am Story of the Year, Age vs. Youth! Who's Going to Win

SHOCKWAVE Motorsports driver David Smith, who started racing at aged 68, will race against the up and coming talent, Derek Kraus, in Sonoma, California, on June 16th.

Derek will make his TA2 Trans Am debut in the Shockwave Motorsports Howe Camaro at the tricky Sonoma road course. Driving with Derek will be David Smith. This duo will be the youngest and oldest driver in the race.

Derek Kraus (born September 1, 2001) is an American professional stock car racing driver. He currently competes full-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series West, driving the No. 16 Toyota Camry for Bill McAnally Racing, part-time in the NASCAR K&N Pro Series East, driving the No.16 Camry for BMR and the No. 1 Camry DGR-Crosley, and part-time in the NASCAR Gander Outdoors Truck Series, driving the No. 19 Toyota Tundra for BMR. The Stratford, Wisconsin native is also a current NASCAR Next member.

The goals of David and Shockwave motorsports are to elevate the status of the West Coast Trans Am series, accelerate Derek’s career and provide excitement for the attending fans. Shockwave and David Smith are no strangers to propelling new athletes to the top level as a sponsor, coach and mentor to Tour d’Giro winner, cyclist Ryder Hesjedal and sponsor of legendary road course
