Trans Am Issues National Championship Points Adjustment Following BC Racing Appeal Process
August 9, 2023
Driver Misha Goikhberg to Forfeit Points and Prize Money Earned at Detroit Grand Prix Races 1 & 2
CHARLOTTE (August 9, 2023) — The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli has updated race results for the Big Machine Vodka SPIKED Coolers TA2 Series’ Race 1 and Race 2 at the Detroit Grand Prix, issuing an update to the 2023 Driver’s Championship point standings following the Board of Appeals judgement in regard to a Lime Rock Park penalty assessed against BC Motorsports’ No. 10 BC Race Cars Ford Mustang driven by Misha Goikhberg.
Race Director David Hoots issued a one-event suspension to Goikhberg following a collision with a stopped racecar during a full-course caution in the race at Lime Rock Park on Saturday, May 27. An Intent to Appeal was delivered to the Race Director and accepted by the series. Because of the immediate turnaround between Lime Rock Park and the Detroit Grand Prix, Goikhberg elected to compete in Race 1 and Race 2 of the Detroit Grand Prix under the Stay of Decision provision. Because the driver declined any further pursuit of the appeal, the original suspension has been upheld and any points and prize money awarded to Goikhberg during his Stay of Decision have been revoked in accordance with the Trans Am Sporting Regulations 2023 vs Articles 8.2, 8.3 and 8.8.
Goikhberg’s one-race suspension was served at the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix, and the driver will return to competition at Watkins Glen International under the condition that any fines issued as a result of the penalty and appeal process have been paid.
