Tomy Drissi Ready for Trans Am West at Sonoma

Trans Am Champion, Tomy Drissi, and Burtin Racing will be back in action this weekend at Sonoma Raceway for the Trans Am West presented by Pirelli Round 2 of west coast action. On track activity’s begin with Friday testing followed by practice on Saturday. The team will qualify Sunday to set the grid for the main event. The race will take the green at 7:10PM EST.
Tomy will be driving Burtin Racing’s #8 GoShare Axalta Chevrolet Camaro in a retro livery taking it’s queue’s from Tomy’s personal vintage 1970 factory Chaparral Camaro… the only surviving car of three factory cars built by Jim Hall. The car will be on display in the team’s paddock.
“These are fun weekends,” said Tomy. “Sonoma is such an iconic track… and I know I’m going to have some great door-to-door racing with my good buddy, Greg Pickett. He’s a long time friend and we always enjoy some great racing together.”
“I’m really looking forward to get back in the Burtin Racing GoShare Axalta Chevrolet Camaro,” added Tomy. “This is a fantastic team and I know I’ll have a fast car under me. It’s a big confidence boost when you know you have a team like Burtin Racing giving you their best effort.”
Tomy has some ground to make up following last month’s event at the Auto Club Speedway. Despite leading the race and setting another track record, fastest lap of the race, half way through the TransAm feature, Tomy suffered a mechanical failure.
“We’ll have the ’70 Jim Hall Chaparral factory Camaro that ran in Trans Am on display for the weekend, just the way it ran back in the day,” noted Tomy. “I’m honored just to have it here. When we found out I was going to run Claudio’s (Burtin) Camaro body, I sent him a picture of the Chaparral car. What the team has done with this car is commemorate the Jim Hall Camaro on a modern Trans Am car. It’s pretty cool.”
The Trans Am West Cost Championship runs June 1-3 at Sonoma Raceway.
