Tom Sheehan Heads West to Gateway for Maximum Points and Results

Madison, ILLIONIS – September 20, 2023 – Tom Sheehan prepares for Round 11 of the Big Machine Spiked Coolers TA2 Series season with a trek near the Gateway Arch. Unlike explorers from the past, “The Ironman” will race at World Wide Technology Raceway otherwise known as Gateway.

After a tough result at Watkins Glen, Tom turns to the newest track on the Big Machine Spiked Coolers TA2 Series circuit. Despite the unknowns awaiting the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang team, Tom is ready to vie for maximum points.

Much like LTK’s belief that repeating performance is mandatory, Tom is focused on producing consistent, strong results. “The Ironman” believes in his team with compiling competitive performances like HVAC professionals turning to the LTK’s trusted product line.

Throughout the year, Tom has rebounded from challenging times by raising the bar, rising above adversity. Likewise, Tom understands that racing and mechanical insulation reward organization as prevalent with his hardworking Mike Cope Racing team.

With three races remaining in the season, Tom ranks P17 in the standings. However, he is only 23 points from P15, an achievable margin with consistent, solid results.

Tom has scored strong results in the second Detroit race (P7), Road America (P13) and Nashville (P12). These finishes have kept Tom within striking distance of closing this year out on a positive note.

Unlike past races this year, Tom’s first laps at Gateway will be during opening practice sessions. Prior to the race weekend, Tom shared his perspectives about racing at Gateway with our reporter.

"Gateway should be entertaining. The TA drivers will get great seats. Multi-class cars in a TA2 field will make for some interesting racing."

Gateway, a 1.6-mile, 8-turn road course, offers familiarity with ingenuity. Initially, drivers will head down the long frontstretch before the sharp left handers in Turns 1 and 2.

Following a brief sojourn on the backstretch, the field proceeds to Turns 3 and 4 before encountering the winding Turns 5 and 6. Another sharp left hander awaits competitors in Turn 7 before rejoining the oval layout in Turn 8.

This unique road course offers three, distinct high speed zones and two hard braking sectors in Turns 2 and 7. Passing will be at a premium in Turns 1, 3 and 7, particularly at race start and restarts.

Round 11 of the 2023 TA2 season kicks off on Friday, Sept. 22, with two early morning test sessions and an afternoon practice session. On Saturday, Sept. 23, group qualifying in the morning sets the grid for the 63-lap, 75-minute race at 2 p.m. ET.

This year, Trans Am races are available for live streaming on Trans Am and SpeedTour's YouTube channels, with full playbacks immediately available after the race. Additionally, the races can be seen in edited, 60-minute features broadcasted on MAVTV's Thursday night primetime slot at 8 p.m. ET.
