Brody Goble Suffers Engine Issues After Dominating First Half
WILLOWS, Calif. (October 11, 2025) - The Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli’s Western Championship Race 1 at Thunderhill Raceway Park was a tale of two races, with completely different conditions between TA Cup and CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series competition. While TA Cup points leader Ken Sutherland went on to smoothly dominate, leading every lap on his way to his fourth-consecutive victory, TA2 championship contender Brody Goble experienced engine issues, which led to hard, close racing among the top-four for the win. Tim Carroll was ultimately victorious, earning his first victory of the 2025 season.
Notes of Interest
Tim Carroll earned his first win of the 2025 season and the second of his career in the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series.
Brian Lock finished second in TA2, while making his first-career Western Championship start. His only other Trans Am race resulted in a victory in the National Championship’s XGT class in 2024.
Kyle Kelley recovered from an eighth-place starting position to finish on the podium.
Points leader Brody Goble led the first 15 laps before coming to pit road with an engine issue. He ultimately finished ninth in class.
Mia Lovell, who is second in the TA2 point standings, was running second and battling for the lead when a spin on lap 29 took her out of contention. She finished seventh.
Championship leader Brody Goble appeared to be on his way to increasing his point lead and scoring his fourth-consecutive TA2 victory, but engine gremlins came for the No. 69 Brown Bros. Ford Lincoln Ford Mustang. After winning the pole in this morning’s qualifying session with a new track record, Goble dominated the first 15 laps of the race, pulling away to a nearly eight-second advantage. Unfortunately, Goble’s engine stumbled as a result of multiple burnt plug wires, forcing him to come down pit road under green. Goble lost two laps while the wires were replaced, and despite coming back onto the racetrack with the same speed as before, he was relegated to a ninth-place finish.
Meanwhile, Goble’s M1 Racecars teammate and second-place starter Tim Carroll (No. 46 CRDMFG.com Chevrolet Camaro) took over the point position on lap 16. By the following lap, new runner-up Mia Lovell, who entered the weekend second in the championship standings, was within a half-second of Carroll’s bumper in her No. 40 Nitro Motorsports Toyota Camry. Lovell battled with Carroll for the lead, while also keeping an eye on Brian Lock (No. 44 Helium Mobile Toyota Camry) and Kyle Kelley (No. 80 UPR.com/PKK Motorsports Ford Mustang) in her rearview mirror. The top four remained in an incredibly tight battle, with Lovell and Lock racing particularly hard until lap 29, when Lovell spun in Turn 3, dropping to the rear of the pack. Lock was able to tighten the gap on Carroll over the course of the last five laps, but was unable to make the pass before the checkered flag waved. Kelley, who started eighth in class, was able to take the third and final podium position. Seamus McKendree (No. 20 Nitro Motorsports Ford Mustang), who started third but dropped to the back due to an incident early in the race, rallied to finish fourth, and JC Meynet (No. 28 B-Bar Ranch/Killer Shrimp/RFR Chevrolet Camaro) rounded out the top five.
“It was an awesome race,” said Carroll on the podium. “We were so far off until qualifying this morning, when we did our best lap ever here, and it was just awesome. In the race, we were just toasting right behind Brody [Goble], and then he bailed off. I'm like, ‘Well, that leaves one spot left for us,’ and we were super pumped, but the tires were definitely different today. I mean, I was managing tires like crazy, but otherwise we're super pumped. This is our second win in Trans Am, and it's just great to be amongst all these awesome gentlemen to be here. Thank you so much.”
