Ruman leads the way in second practice

Amy Ruman, in the #23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette, edged out defending Champion Doug Peterson for the fast lap in the second practice session of the day. Her 1:21.406, logged during her last hot lap on track, edged out the 1:21.982 of Peterson and the #87 3Dimensional.com Chevrolet Corvette. Ruman has a history of success here at Road Atlanta, including a win in 2011 when she became the first woman to every win a Trans Am race.

Following Ruman and Peterson was John Baucom, in the #86 Baucom Motorsports/Roadraceparts.com Ford Mustang, with a 1:22.364; Simon Gregg and Cliff Ebben once again rounded out the top five with times of 1:22.782 and 1:123.414, respectively.

Cameron Lawrence, in the #1 Trick Titanium Chevrolet Camaro, was once again atop the TA2 charts with a 1:27.540, but was followed closely by Bob Stretch, in the #98 FixRim Mobile Wheel Repair Chevrolet Camaro with a 1:27.701, and Adam Andretti with a 1:29.013 in the #44 Engineered Components Chevrolet Camaro. Tom West and Kevin Poitras rounded out the top five in the TA2 class.

In TA3 International, Jason Berkeley, in the #67 BMG Management Chevrolet Corvette, led the way with a 1:32.521, beating out the likes of Norman Betts, in the #82 Hoosier/VP Fuels Chevrolet Corvette, and Tim Gray, in the Ryan Companies US Inc. Porsche GT3, who had times of 1:34.466 and 1:36.015, respectively.

Defending TA3 American Muscle Champion Chuck Cassaro, in the #76 StackData/Aeromotive/Metallica Ford Mustang, topped out the American Muscle Group lap times with a 1:34.466, overcoming Rich Jones, in the #37 JOMAC Bodies and Cranes/ Deb’s Peppers Ford Mustang, and Chris DeSalvo, in the #61 LCR Racing Ford Mustang.

Trans Am will take to the track again for qualifying this afternoon at 2:15 p.m., as the Trans Am Series prepares for tomorrow, May 10, and the 100 Mile Trans Am races, with TA2 at 9:25 a.m. and TA and TA3 at 10:55 a.m.
