Rookie Aaron Quine Ready to Shine in Trans Am Debut at Mid Ohio
August 14, 2014

(Team Release) LEXINGTON, OH—August 14, 2014 – Even though he’s making his Trans Am debut, rookie Aaron Quine is ready to shine in his series debut for Tony Ave Racing and Quine Racing at Mid-Ohio.
The 42-year-old Quine has lived in the Akron area his entire life and has been an SCCA racer for more than 20 years. Quine has enjoyed years of podium-filled success at Mid Ohio, with many SCCA poles, race wins and track records in the T1 and T2 classes. All that success came in Corvettes, however. For his Trans Am debut, Quine will be driving a 2012 Howe Mustang in the TA2 class.
“My Dad, Bill, was a long-time Corvette racer, and he got me started down this fast, fun path,” says Quine. “I lost him on January 24, 2012, after his long struggle with cancer. I know he’d be so happy for me and would be in the shop and at the track helping us prep the car and figuring out how to find those extra tenths-of-a-second.
“I’m so happy to make my Trans Am debut in a Howe Mustang at my home track,” said Quine. “The TA2 Mustang is a proper race car with gobs of power, great brakes and incredible handling. I thought my T1 Corvette was fast, but the Mustang takes fast to whole ‘nother level.”
While Quine is making his Trans Am debut, he’s a big fan of the series and is familiar with many of the drivers. “I love that Trans Am is experiencing such a resurgence in popularity,” said Quine. “The cars look and sound great, and fans can still really relate to them, just like they did in the 1970s. While I haven’t met all the drivers, I know the starting grid is deep with talent. I’ve instructed with Adam Andretti for several years and am looking forward to being on track with him and the rest of the field.”
Quine has managed to land several prominent sponsors for his initial foray into Trans Am, including Tony Ave Racing, Ford Racing, Ford Driving Skills for Life, The Mid-Ohio School, Fallsways Equipment, Hoosier Racing Tires, Track First and Masters of Disaster. Kumho Tires (for whom he does tire development work), is providing its semi truck and trailer so Quine can paddock in style at Mid Ohio.
“I’m so grateful for the support of my sponsors and my family (wife Angie, daughter McKenzie and Mom Peggy). My SCCA ‘family’ has also jumped in to help out, providing food at the track and crew support,” added Quine. “My goal is to be fast and safe and bring the car home in one piece. We’ll see where we end up and--if things go well—I would love to parlay this into a full-season effort next year.”
