Mike Cope Racing Rookie Drivers Chase ROTY Title
February 21, 2022
The Mike Cope Racing team heads into the 2022 Trans Am TA2 season opener at Sebring International Raceway with two team drivers contending for the Rookie of the Year title. Darin Mock and Ty Young both competed with Mike Cope Racing in 2021 on a limited basis. 2022 brings new goals and a full season of competition between these two rookie drivers.
Darin Mock, the son of Butch Mock- a retired NASCAR driver and Cup series co-owner, will pilot the #51 AAN Adjusters Ford Mustang. Mock competed with MCR in 2021 finishing in the top 10 in 2 of his 3 starts. Mock looks to continue that momentum and build from there in 2022.
“I’m super excited to get on the track at Sebring in the AAN Adjusters Mustang,” said Mock. “I think my overall goal this weekend is to race and qualify inside the top 8-10.”
Modest, yet very doable, goals for the young talent as he kicks off the TA2 season.
Ty Young enjoyed his time in the #26 Cope House Car in 2021, so much so that he chose to have his own personal Cope Race
Car built for the 2022 season.
“[I am] super excited to run the full TA2 National schedule in 2022 and feel fortunate to compete for rookie of the year at 55 years of age,” said Young. “There is a lot of stiff competition [and] should be exciting to watch!”
A career best finish of P9 at Laguna Seca in only his 2nd career TA2 start gives Young the confidence he needs as he takes on a full season run for ROTY.
“Racing a TA2 car at some of the most iconic tracks in the world, for me, it’s a dream come true,” said Young. “2022 is going to be fantastic! A TA2 car at Sebring is like driving a fire breathing bucking bronco...for me, its nirvana!”
Round 1 from Sebring gets underway this week. Load in is scheduled for February 23rd with a test day on Friday, February 25th, practice and qualifying on Saturday, February 26th and The Trans Am presented by Pirelli TA2 main event is Sunday, February 27th at 1:00pm EST.
