Drissi Motorsports Carries Momentum into First Trans Am Doubleheader of 2026 in Sonoma
  • Drissi Motorsports returns to Trans Am competition this weekend at Sonoma Raceway with national and Western champions Tomy Drissi and Simon Gregg
  • Drissi has taken podiums in the past two Trans Am national races at Sonoma
  • Simon Gregg returns to a track where he won three Western Series races in a row from 2019-21

Drissi Motorsports is excited to resume the 60th Anniversary season of Trans Am by Pirelli with the first doubleheader of the year at Sonoma Raceway this weekend. California native and 2009 national champion Tomy Drissi and the #8 Trench Shoring Company/Petersen Automotive Museum/Motul Chevrolet Camaro will look to score their second and third podiums of the season, while 2012 national champion Simon Gregg and the #59 Chevrolet Camaro will look to break into the top five.

So far, spring has been kind to Drissi behind the wheel, starting with March’s hard-fought podium finish at Road Atlanta. Earlier this month, Drissi returned to the International Race of Champions, where he joined a grid of fellow racing legends at the Heritage Invitational at Ten Tenths Motor Club; returning to the same car he drove to victory at Laguna Seca last year, Drissi was again one of the top drivers in the field, finishing sixth overall in a photo finish across the line with Max Papis.

The Hollywood native looks to carry that momentum into his home state, which hosts two races for the second year in a row. Drissi has taken podiums in the last two Trans Am races at Sonoma—third place last year, second place in 2022—and four of his five career NASCAR Cup Series starts have come at the track. Drissi also finished second here in Trans Am Western competition in 2018, on the way to winning that year’s championship.

“I’ve had Sonoma circled on this year’s calendar ever since it was announced,” said Drissi. “Trans Am has such an amazing history in California, and I’ve always been able to find success coming back home, from my first win at Long Beach in 2000 to now. It’s going to be very special to get to race in front of these fans twice, and I’m looking forward to going for more trophies on one of my favorite tracks!”

Gregg has his own record of success at Sonoma, especially in the Western Series. He won the TA class here in 2019 on the way to the series championship, and he backed it up with XGT victories in 2020 and 2021. As he continues to build a rapport with the Drissi Motorsports team, Gregg will look to replicate those past successes.

“It’s exciting to get back to Sonoma, a track where I’ve run so well in past,” said Gregg. “Every time I hit the track with this Drissi Motorsports team, we get a little bit faster and more competitive. We’re hoping to take advantage of the doubleheader to score some good points and move forward in the championship.”
With two races on the docket for the weekend, Drissi Motorsports and the TA class will get their first track time on Thursday with a pair of optional test sessions at 11:25AM and 5PM. Friday’s schedule will see practice at 9:35AM and qualifying at 2:40PM, while the green flag for this weekend’s races will drop on Saturday at 9:45AM and Sunday at 10:45AM. Tickets are still available, while Racing America will carry free live streaming of both races as always.
