Archer back on the podium at Road Atlanta with 2nd place finish
April 12, 2016
TEAM RELEASE Braselton, GA – Tommy Archer knew he had a faster car than his 5th place starting position for today’s race, round 2 of 13 in the Trans Am TA2 series at Road Atlanta, and it didn’t take long for everyone to see it. After battling his way up through the field and traffic from 5th position, Archer takes home his best performance to date driving the #54 Kolar Chevrolet Camaro with a 2nd place finish, only four tenths behind race winner Tony Buffamonte. Today’s race and podium performance might be best said by race winner Buffamonte, as he was joined on the victory lane podium by Tommy, and 3rd place finisher Dillon Machavern. “And Tommy Archer, I don’t know what you say about Tommy Archer, he’s just a legend. He’s an inspiration for all of us on and off the track. So it’s an honor to be up there with him.”
Tommy won the ‘Cool Move of Race presented by Cool Shirt Systems’ for his drive through the pack and ultimately his 2nd place position. While Archer made it look easy on the track, it was a long race and drive for Tommy inside of the car. “The car worked good today - it was fun to drive. I was driving my heart out like every lap was a qualifying lap throughout the 100 mile race,” says Tommy. “Tony was really fast on the straightaways but I could catch him in the corners. With a few of the other top 5 drivers having some problems – everything just played to our advantage. 2nd place is exactly what this team needed and I can’t thank everyone enough, especially the Archer Brothers crew both here at the track and back home in Duluth, for their support both on and off the track.”
The Archer Brothers team would like to congratulate Tony Buffamonte of Mike Cope Racing on his win today and thank all of our supporting partners: KolarChev.com, Koolmat, BTS Industries, Howe Racing Enterprises, Morgan Stanley, Quarter Master, Penske Shocks, Teamtech, Elite Tinting and Graphics, Automedics and Cars - Complete Auto Repair & Service.
A special thank you to the Mayo Clinic including all of the doctors, nurses and staff for their continued support, well wishes and for providing Tommy the ability to continue and pursue his passion of auto racing.
Next up: Tommy and the Archer Brothers team will have just over 1 month prior to the next race at Watkins Glen International in Watkins Glen, NY with race activities scheduled on May 14 – 15.
