Two Wins and Three Podium Results as Nitro Motorsports Closes Trans Am Season as Champions
November 5, 2024
“Crews and Corry win, Annunziata on podium, Matos is the champ as 2024 comes to an end”
November 4, 2024 – The Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli season ended much as it began for Nitro Motorsports this past weekend at the Circuit of the Americas (COTA). Battling the 3.427-mile, 20-turn road course in Austin, Texas, Nitro Motorsports earned victories at the hands of Brent Crews and Sam Corry as Rafa Matos claimed the TA2 National Championship.
While qualifying did not go as planned for the back-to-back championship-winning program, Nitro Motorsports made up for it in the race as all seven of their drivers earned top-ten finishes in their respective classes. 2023 TA2 Champion Brent Crews began his quest for victory from the inside of row three after qualifying fifth, one position behind Thomas Annunziata who put his #90 machine in the fourth position. Rafa Matos, who was on the verge of winning the 2024 TA2 national title qualified eighth, while Ben Maier had an uncharacteristic result outside the top-ten in 11th.
In the TA2 Pro-Am class, Sam Corry qualified in the pole position at COTA, while Jared Odrick was fourth quick in class as Mauri Zaccarelli slotted into the tenth position.
Once the wheel-to-wheel action began, it was all Nitro Motorsports as they again flexed their muscles and rose to the occasion. Crews moved forward from his fifth-place starting position to make a last-lap move for the win, with Annunziata following him through to second. This made it a one-two finish for Nitro Motorsports to close out the 2024 campaign. Matos held his P8 starting spot to finish eighth in the race, garnering enough points to claim the title and be crowned the 2024 Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli TA2 National Champion. Maier put a quartet of Nitro Motorsports drivers inside the top-ten in TA2, gaining two positions throughout the affair to finish ninth.
Sam Corry made it a Nitro Motorsports sweep in race wins as he won the TA2 Pro-Am class to join Crews on the top step of the podium in a double victory for Nitro Motorsports. Not putting a wheel wrong all weekend long, Corry was the class of the field. Odrick, a victor himself in 2024, settled for fourth in his final Trans Am Series race of the season as Zaccarelli gained one position to cross the line in ninth.
“What a weekend, what a season,” explained Nick Tucker. “At least a podium result in every race this season, multiple drivers winning races and standing on the podium, winning both National class and Pro-Am races, and claiming another TA2 title. Words cannot describe our season and the commitment that this team has put in. Every single person involved in Nitro Motorsports deserves this. Thank you!”
