$50,000 Pay Day for Nitro Motorsports as Brent Crews and Andy Lally Win the Trans Am All-Star Challenge
July 22, 2024
Two on the podium and four cars in the top-seven
July 22, 2024 – A common theme this season, Nitro Motorsports was one again at the top step of the podium. Taking the win in the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli, Brent Crews and Andy Lally led the way for Nitro Motorsports earning $50,000 for their efforts. Following suit, Nitro Motorsports put a pair of teams on the podium, with all four cars finishing in the top-seven.
“What a great event this is shaping up to be,” explained Nitro Motorsports' Nick Tucker. “With all the professional drivers, the fanfare is excellent, and it is drawing a lot more attention to the Trans Am Series.”
After a practice session, it was straight into qualifying as Andy Lally and Brent Crews led the four-car Nitro Motorsports team in the Trans Am All-Star Race qualifying. The duo earned the second-fastest lap of the session and outside row one starting position. Just behind them, Adam Andretti and AJ Henriksen clocked the third-fastest time as Nitro Motorsports put a trio of cars inside the top-five, with Hailie Deegan and Ben Maier in the fifth position. With all four driving duos inside the top-ten, Thomas Annunziata and Ryan Newman would line up eighth for the race that rolled off the grid Friday afternoon.
In a different race format than usual, the All-Star drivers would start the race and compete for 25 minutes before a mandatory five-minute caution period and driver change. The Trans Am regulars would complete the second half of the wheel-to-wheel competition with podium results to follow.
When the final checkered flag flew, the 2023 TA2 National Champion Brent Crews and the legendary Andy Lally topped the podium to take the win. Earning $50,000 for their efforts, Crews and Lally were all smiles.
Tucker added, “This is incredible. We have been having a solid season, and to win this race, and have two drivers on the podium is awesome.”
With Crews and Lally taking the win, Ryan Newman and Thomas Annunziata scored the fastest lap of the race and put a pair of Nitro Motorsports cars on the podium as they finished third. Annunziata showed pace in the second half of the race as he was able to push his way to the front and win amongst all the 2024 TA2 series regulars. With the win in the second half of the race, Annunziata is hoping that this momentum will continue back into the second half of the National Championship. A common theme for the Nitro team this season was another one – three finish for the program. Putting all four cars in the top-seven of the final results, Hailie Deegan and Ben Maier finished sixth, while Adam Andretti and AJ Henriksen crossed the line in seventh.
Tucker continued, “A short break now, and then we will kick the National Championship back off in four weeks, and we will aim to keep the momentum going.”
Next up for the Nitro Motorsports Trans Am Presented by Pirelli program will be a trip to Watkins Glen International over the August 21-25 weekend.
