Nitro Motorsports Brings Podium Streak and Momentum to the WWTR This Weekend

Matos, Maier, Annunziata, and Crews aim for Trans Am wins in St. Louis
May 8, 2024 – With victories and podiums in the first three rounds of the Trans Am Series Presented by Pirelli, Nitro Motorsports will look to continue that trend this weekend. Set to battle the road course at the World Wide Technology Raceway just outside St. Louis, Nitro Motorsports will contest a quartet of drivers led by the most recent winner and winningest driver in Trans Am Series history, Rafa Matos.
“We have four drivers this weekend, any of which can stand on the top step of the podium,” explained Nitro Motorsports’ Nick Tucker. “We welcome 2023 Trans Am TA2 Champion Brent Crews back to the squad while Tyler Gonzalez will be forced to miss this event with a prior conflict but will return later this season.”
With Rafa Matos as the most recent event winner, teammate Thomas Annunziata enters the weekend second in the championship standings, one spot ahead of Matos. Gonzalez is currently fourth in the points chase and leading the Rookie of the Year standings. Perennial front-runner and 2023 series champ Brent Crews will replace him as he races alongside the always-exciting Ben Maier, who earned the fastest lap of the race at NOLA Motorsports Park just a few weeks ago.
“I am not sure you can ask for a more potent driver lineup,” added Tucker. “While we are focused on these four drivers this weekend, we have opportunities for funded drivers later in 2024.”
In a condensed two-day weekend schedule, Nitro Motorsports and their four drivers will take to the track three times on Friday for a pair of test sessions and official practice before Saturday’s schedule will see qualifying in the morning and wheel-to-wheel racing in the afternoon.
