ProFabrication, Inc. to be Featured on Mock’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series Car
MOORESVILLE, N.C. (March 20, 2024) – It was over 30 years ago when Steve Sousley walked into Butch Mock’s NASCAR Cup Series race shop seeking employment. The meeting led to not only a job offer, but also a lifelong friendship—one that will culminate this weekend with Sousley’s ProFabrication, Inc., featured on a racecar driven by Mock’s son, Darin Mock. The younger Mock will be racing the No. 51 ProFabrication Ford Mustang for Nitro Motorsports at this weekend’s Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli’s CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series race at Road Atlanta. The weekend will also mark ProFabrication’s entrance into the TA2 Series market, offering exhaust systems to teams throughout the paddock.
“I hired Steve [Sousley] as right-front tire changer and fabricator,” remembered the elder Mock. “He was young—just a kid—but he was one of the best employees I've ever had. A good tire changer, good worker and a super, super good guy. When I shut down the team, Steve wanted to do something on his own—start a business. He chose to go in the header business, building exhaust pipes for racecars. Now he has ProFabrication, and it’s really a cool business! He’s working with teams in INDYCAR, NASCAR and professional drag racing. He's built kind of an empire within the exhaust industry in racing. To think it started with working for a NASCAR team, walking in the door one day and asking for a job—it's really a cool story.”
“We're all super excited for this weekend,” said Sousley. “As a business owner, we've done very few sponsorships with customers or teams. Working for Butch [Mock] was my first job in professional motorsports; we’ve had a great relationship for over 30 years. I'm honored that we're able to come together and have this opportunity to have our name on his car. It's exciting to go to the track and watch Darin—I’ve known him his entire life. Butch has been a mentor to me throughout my career, and I have a tremendous respect for him and all of his achievements. Being able to do this with him is really cool; we're thrilled to be a part of this event.”
“I'm excited to race at Road Atlanta,” said Darin Mock. “It's my favorite track out of all the racetracks that Trans Am visits. I have it circled on my calendar and always look forward to it, but it’s even more special this year with having ProFabrication on the car. With the history between Steve and my dad, it really is a full-circle moment. It means a lot to have Steve’s company on board, and I’m excited to see them enter the TA2 market with their products.”
ProFabrication was started in 1995 as a part-time business with Sousley building 23 headers that year. Within a year, Sousley took the company full time, and hired his first part-time employee a few months later. Nearly three decades later, ProFabrication is housed in a 24,000 square foot facility in Concord, N.C., with 40 full-time employees working to build 1000-1200 headers per year. The company builds headers and exhaust systems for nearly every circle track and road racing series in America—covering everything from short track racing, all the way to the premiere levels of NASCAR and INDYCAR.
The partnership with Darin Mock and Nitro Motorsports provides ProFabrication with an introduction into the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, where they will begin supplying exhaust systems to customers throughout the paddock.
