Ruman Advances to 3rd Place in Race and Championship
at VIR Mission Foods SpeedTour
Munroe Falls, Ohio – It was an action-packed weekend for Amy Ruman and the Ruman Racing team at VIRgina International Raceway (VIR) in Danville, VA, this past weekend. Ruman advanced to bring home a third-place finish at the VIR Mission Foods SpeedTour, after it was all said and done.
The test day started off a little rough when Ruman was battling vibrations in the front-end body work of her No. 23 McNichols Chevrolet Corvette. The team worked diligently for both sessions ultimately fixing the issue. Saturday TA qualifying was a very late session at 6:00pm, when drivers were faced with sun glare. She laid down some quick laps, but on lap 4 there was a mishap with a competitor. Both cars sustained damaged but were able to be repaired in time for the race. Ruman’s time earned her a sixth-place staring position for Sunday’s race.
Sunny skies and cool fall temps prevailed for the start of the race. Ruman wasted no time moving up to fifth position by turn three. She settled in battling it out with Drissi and trading positions with Fix throughout the race. Unfortunately, Ruman slid off track in some oil, dropping her to seventh position on lap 24. She fought her way back to finish fourth at the checkered flag. Ultimately Ruman would acquire a third place after some post-race penalties were assessed to another competitor.
“What an eventful weekend! I really put the guys through the ringer again this weekend with the qualifying setback. Of course, they rose to the occasion and fixed the No. 23 in time for the race. The car felt great, and we had a good run going. I think I ended up getting in Drissi’s rear-end oil and spun off just at the wrong time. I was happy to battle back through the field and picked up one more position on a last lap pass. We gained some valuable points this weekend for the Championship and inched our way back up to third in points. It should be a fun finale at COTA with our three-way points battle between Drissi, myself, and Thwaits!” remarked Ruman.
Heading into the final round of the 2022 season next month, Chris Dyson clinched the TA National class championship and has 292 points, Tomy Drissi is second – 219, Amy Ruman moves up to third – 213, Ken Thwaits drops to fourth – 208, and David Pintaric is fifth – with 130 points.
The season finale will end at Circuit of The Americas (COTA) November 4-6.
