David Budres Joins Competition One for Trans Am Debut at Road America
June 27, 2022
David Budres and Competition One will compete in the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli for their first event of the season as they join the eighth round taking place at Road America July 1-3. The 100-mile race will go green at 10:30am CST on Sunday morning just hours before the NASCAR Cup series Kwik Trip 250 takes place later that afternoon.
The team is coming off a successful weekend at the 67th running of the WeatherTech Chicago Region June Sprints at Road America where Budres claimed a well-earned podium finish for the #95 crew. After achieving a strong result at the June Sprints, the team decided to keep that momentum going and enter the #95 2019 Howe/Dodge Challenger into the TA2 class for the upcoming Trans Am 100s at Road America with NASCAR.
“We really had a great weekend at the June Sprints,” said driver David Budres. “It couldn’t have gone too much better. We showed pace and had a good final race, and I couldn’t be more pleased with my first weekend in the car. These cars are a blast to drive, and I can’t wait to continue this momentum into next weekend.”
“I can’t thank everyone involved with this program enough,” continued Budres. “It’s like a dream come true. I’ve been going to Road America since I was a little kid, getting autographs from IndyCar drivers and Trans Am drivers like Boris Said, Tommy Kendall, and Scott Sharp. One of my fondest Trans Am memories was getting Walter Payton’s autograph after a Trans Am race. I can’t wait to compete in the race myself this weekend.”
“David has taken everything he’s learned from karting, driving midgets, formula cars, Miatas, and driver coaching and put it all together for his effort in TA2,” said Team Owner Steve Stadel. “His podium finish at the June Sprints in his debut in this type of car shows he’s ready to tackle this next step. While working as a crew chief on this car last year, David realized this is where he wanted to be as a driver. I’m more than happy he chose Competition One to help him achieve this goal.”
Weekend activity begins with testing and practice sessions for the TA2 class on Friday followed by qualifying on Saturday and the 25-lap race on Sunday. Watch all the sessions live on the SpeedTour TV YouTube page as well as the Trans Am Series YouTube and Facebook pages.
