Darin Mock leaning on Familiarity of Mid Ohio for Success

Darin Mock is hoping his past experience at the Mid Ohio Sports Car Course leads to another successful run like last year.

After a recent break in the schedule, Mock and the No. 51 AAN Adjuster Ford Mustang team are ready to get back to the track. For Mock, he’s especially looking forward to the 2.258-mile course of Mid Ohio for one major reason.

It’s the first track on the TA2 Trans Am Series schedule where he’s race before. And, the last time he wheeled his was around the course, he brought home a 10th-place finish.

“That is or goal for this weekend, to equal or improve where we finished here last year,” Darin Mock said. “Coming back to a track I’ve raced before is a welcome change after making so many first time start at other places this year.

“I like this track, the layout and how challenging the turns are fits my driving style. This is a beautiful area up here and the fans always turn out to support the races.”

Having the support of the Mike Cope Racing Team is also beneficial to the rookie driver. Mock and the team already have their race strategy and plan in place.  But, Mother Nature might have a say in those decisions.

“We are looking to have another clean run on Sunday,” he said. “This team has put a lot of work in to preparing our Ford Mustang and we need that to show up on the track.

“There’s a chance its going to rain during the race, so it’s a good thing I’ve gained some valuable experience running in those conditions this year. It’s not ideal, but there’s not much you can do about it except go out there and run your race.

“The one thing I do like is we are heading to Road America next week giving us back-to-back weekends of racing. When you do that, the last event is fresh on your brain and you don’t have any rust to knock off when there are gaps in the schedule.”

Mock and the Mike Cope Racing Team will practice and qualify on Saturday and then get ready for the 45-lap race at 10:55 am ET on Sunday.
