A Pair of Top-Tens at COTA for Silver Hare Racing
(High Point, NC) Silver Hare Racing rolled into Circuit of the Americas, in Austin, TX, as
the defending TA2 race winners. Serving as the final race of the 2021 season, the field
was stacked with a record setting fifty-one TA2 cars.
Silver Hare Racing got off to a quick start, with Tyler Kicera (no.5 Silver Hare Racing Ford Mustang) logging the second
quickest lap of the first test session and Michael Self (no.7 Sinclair Oil, Silver Hare Racing
Chevy Camaro) jumping up the board to P4 in the second test. Self maintained in
qualifying, clocking in P6, while Kicera backslid to P11. Maurice Hull (no.57 Planet
Cowboy, Silver Hare Racing Chevy Camaro) had to serve a drive-through penalty during
his qualifying session and was unable to post a time before the session was cut short.
When the green flag fell, Self held his starting position through the first fifteen laps and
then began to climb the board, working his way up to fourth. Four laps later, Self ran
wide after turn-seven, falling back to seventh. By this point, Kicera had worked his way
up to eighth position and, after another front runner was forced to retired, both drivers
were promoted one spot. Self and Kicera found themselves racing door-to-door in a
three-way battle with Cameron Lawrence for fifth. On lap twenty-four, Kicera was spun
from behind, dropping him back to nineth and out of touch with the top-five. Ultimately,
both drivers held their positions and crossed the line with Self in P6 and Kicera later
being promoted to P8 after penalties were assessed. Starting at the back of the pack,
Hull had a strong drive, gaining twenty-one positions to finish P27.
“Overall, the entire Silver Hare team did a great job this weekend,” said Self. “The No. 7
Sinclair Oil/Silver Hare Camaro had a lot of speed right off the trailer, and I was able to
log consistent top-ten lap times throughout practice and qualifying. As far as the race,
this was hands-down one of the most competitive fields I’ve raced against in a long
time. The track conditions were tough, and it seemed like everyone was fighting rear tire
wear. I think that made for a great race. As a team, we learned a lot between the final
two races of the season, and I think that gives us a great foundation to build on in the
offseason in preparation for 2022.”
Kicera finished P7 in the national points standings, Hull P14 and Self, running a partial
schedule, in P15. With the 2021 season behind them, Silver Hare Racing’s focus will
shift to preparation for the 2022 season opener at Sebring International Raceway,
February 24-27.
