Bow, NEW HAMPSHIRE – October 29, 2021 - The unique test of man and machine afforded by Circuit of The Americas at Austin in Texas is what awaits the teams and drivers in Round 12 - the climax of the 2021 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship season TA2 Class.
The Texas circuit is fresh from hosting Max Verstappen’s win in the United States Grand Prix and the long straights are hard going and designed primarily for single seat racing cars. Hence durability is at a premium and on that score, there is no one in the TA field more durable than the man with the most starts in TA2, New Hampshire's Tom Sheehan, the 2019 Ironman winner and the most experienced driver in the field.
Tom has been running a Mike Cope platform Ford Mustang for the second season this year and it’s been a challenging but resilient effort. Nevertheless, Tom is very much among the elite drivers in P9 out of 64 starters with 145 Championship points. A good result at COTA could see Tom leapfrog into P7 and it would be no less than he and the Damon Racing team deserve at the end of a season epitomised by hard work.
"The final TA2 contest, it’s clear, nothing on the line for the field as the championship is locked. 50 cars, elbows out, focus forward," stated Tom Sheehan.
Circuit of the Americas (COTA) is a grade 1 FIA-specification 3.427-mile motor racing track and the current home of the Formula One United States Grand Prix. The spectator experience at an SVRA event is like no other motorsport. The paddock area is always open to spectators, offering an up-close level of access to cars and drivers. Attendees can check out the garages and see vintage race cars and Trans Am cars getting prepped for the track. Race-goers will see why the Trans Am and vintage racing community is one of the most friendly and knowledgeable groups of people in the car world.
The Trans Am race at COTA is billed as the Austin Speed Tour, with the muscle car racing sharing the stage with the 2021 US Vintage National Championships.
