Ruman Looking for Repeat Podium at Brainerd This Weekend After Disappointing Road America Finish

Munroe Falls, Ohio – After another short turnaround in between races, the busy month of July continues with a Round 7 SpeedTour stop at Brainerd International Raceway (BIR), the Ryan Companies US presents the Jed Copham Tribute Weekend. This will be the Series 30th appearance at the northern circuit, and the 2nd annual memorial race honoring the track’s late owner and part-time Trans Am driver, Jed Copham.

Ruman was running a solid race at Road America, WI over the 4th of July holiday weekend, until a part failure took her out of the race. She wrapped up the weekend with a disappointing 14th place finish after a front suspension part broke and sent her into the wall with 7-laps to go.

Ruman has had much success at BIR, including a second-place finish in 2020 and victories in 2015, 2012 (race 2). Running in conjunction with the SVRA and the F4 US Championship, Trans Am will feature one race this weekend, with TA and TA2 running a combined race format.

“It is always a special race to honor and pay tribute to our friend and former competitor Jed (Copham),” remarked Ruman. “I had a great race at BIR last year capturing a second-place finish despite an intermittent power steering issue in the final laps. It was a quick turnaround from the Road America race and the guys have been working diligently to repair the No. 23 McNichols/Cornertech Chevrolet Corvette after a front suspension part failed and sent us into the wall. As always, our strategy is to land a podium spot on Sunday!”

Twenty-five competitors are entered across all classes for the weekend. Testing, practices, and qualifying will take place Friday through Sunday. The Ryan Companies 100 feature race will be Sunday at 11:25am CT, 40-laps (100-mi) and will be LIVE STREAMED on the Trans Am by Pirelli Racing App. Please visit gotransam.com or brainerdraceway.com for schedules and all other weekend information.

After Round 6 at Road America and five races left in the season, Chris Dyson leads in the TA class championship with 177 points, followed by Tomy Drissi in second – 155, Ernie Francis Jr. in third – 128, Simon Gregg in fourth – 119, Ken Thwaits sits in fifth – 106, Amy Ruman in sixth – 105, and David Pintaric is seventh – with 99.
