New York – The F.A.S.T. Auto Racing team had a stand out Memorial Day weekend at The Trans Am presented by Pirelli’s annual Lime Rock Park event. Saturday saw Mike Phillips take SGT by a storm winning the race in a down pour. The team returned Monday to have F.A.S.T. Auto Racing Owner Adrian Wlostowski have his best ever finish, coming home seventh in the ultra-competitive TA2 category.
Team Owner Adrian Wlostowski said, “I couldn’t be prouder of our team. Mike Phillips did an outstanding job bringing home the win in SGT in our F.A.S.T. Auto Racing Corvette. My seventh-place finish in TA2 was a breakthrough for myself, our team, and our sponsor Hawk Performance. We’ve been strong in SGT for some time, but TA2 is all new to us and my finish tells us there are good things to come with our program.
“Moving up to TA2 has been a big challenge, we added new crew members and it’s made all the difference and now we’re seeing progress. Murph, Billy, Tim, Karol, Dave, Drew, Nick, Gus, Patrick, and Stasiek keep after it at the shop and at the track and their efforts have made a big difference to our whole program.
Changing conditions throughout the three-day event kept competitors on their toes.
“My No. 3 Hawk Performance Camaro and I are getting better every race. But I have to say the weekend was especially difficult with it being wet in one session and dry the next. The first practice session was wet and the second was dry. When we qualified for TA2 it was raining but by race time it was dry. Every session was different so finding a good set up was difficult – but we kept after it.”
Events leading up to Lime Rock also made for a bigger challenge than the team was expecting. While attending an event the previous weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park (NJMP), one of Wlostowski’s close friends was involved in an accident and fire.
“In racing anything can happen. I was at NJMP helping customers when my friend Mark Petronis had a major accident,” Wlostowski said. “It really dampened our enthusiasm leading up to Lime Rock. All of us were gutted. It took a lot just to get refocused and finish our prep, at one point I considered not even going. Mark and his family are in our thoughts and prayers. He’s in for a long recovery but we’ll be with him every step.”
Despite the events leading up to the race, the weekend’s performance was fantastic for the team and demonstrated how far they’ve come in TA2.
“It was great having our best weekend of the season with family and friends in attendance,” Wlostowski continued. “Winning SGT was a great way to kick off the weekend and finishing seventh in TA2 was really good for our program. The team is making great progress with our Hawk Performance Camaro and I’m looking forward to Mid-Ohio. We get better every race, and that’s all we can ask in our first season.”
The complete race is up on the Trans Am YouTube channel, and it’s one you definitely want to watch, Wlostowski said. “It’s exciting from the beginning to the end with lots of action and a wild ending!” Trans Am does a great job with their live stream just click the link below to watch the full race replay!
