SLR/FIELDS WRAPS UP 2019 IN DAYTONA

On Saturday the checkered flag flew for the final race of the 2019 Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli. The 100-mile race at Daytona International Speedway was filled with action from lap 1 to the finish. SLR/Fields Racing, M1 Racecars had two drivers in the TA2 powered by AEM race, both driving Chevrolet Camaro's. Jacob Mosler behind the wheel of the No. 17, and Sam Mayer in the No. 92.

Jacob Mosler competed in 11 of the 13 races this season as a rookie finishing 2nd in rookie of the year honors. Heading into Daytona he was 13th in the championship points standings and looking for a solid finish inside the Top-5 for all the hometown family and friends, gathered at the track. Jacob was clearly on a mission, moving quickly through the field from his 11th place starting position until debris dropped on track from a car in front and punctured the transmission cooler. Jacob would finish a disappointing 23rd.

"Daytona is one of my favorite tracks on the circuit. I enjoyed being able to have my family and friends here to support me and I wish we could have had a better finish. We were contending for a Top-5 finish, but unfortunately, I hit some debris and had mechanical issues. The SLR/M1 Racecars team did an amazing job all season long. In a years' time, I went from competing for Top-15s to running with the leaders and capturing Top-5 finishes. Scott Sr. and Scott Jr. have helped me learn a lot over this past year," said Mosler.
 
"This was really a kick in the stomach for all of us that have worked with Jacob this season. He has accomplished a lot and was well positioned to prove what he has learned to all watching. He should be proud as he knows how well he has developed skills that normally take much longer to perfect. He is a quick learner with a lot of talent," said Scott Lagasse Jr.

Sam Mayer's day was equally exciting and frustrating as he would start the race from the pole position after running the fastest lap in qualifying. The cold weather would challenge all the drivers, but Sam would be the first to turn 1 and to discover there was no real grip on the cool tires and ultimately Sam would make contact in with another car and would have to do a drive thru penalty down pit lane, losing valuable track position. There was no slowing the 16-year-old down after serving his penalty. Mayer began his march back to the front. After another caution which bunched the field again, it didn't take long before Mayer found himself in an intense battle with the leader, swapping positions every other lap.

With just a few laps remaining, another full-course yellow came out, which would end the race. At the time of the incident, Trans Am officials initially scored Mayer the winner saying he was the leader at the time of the caution. However, shortly after officials posted Mayer 2nd, stating that he was passed by the No. 99 prior to the yellow being displayed.
 
"During the post-race technical inspection parts of the 92 car did not meet the minimum height requirements. This was due to the body and suspension damage that was sustained early in the race. The crew put together an awesome race car that passed the pre-race tech inspection and then Sam drove an amazing race with it. To have the finish taken away is something that is going to be controversial for a while," said team manager Lee Quinlan when asked about the disqualification. 
 
"That was a tough race. I enjoyed being able to come back to the Trans Am Series and run at Daytona. I cannot thank SLR and M1 Racecars enough for this opportunity. They provided me with a great Chevy Camaro. We showed we were one of the fastest cars all weekend. I look forward to working with SLR and M1 Racecars again next season," said Mayer.
 
"I'm extremely proud of the job that the M1 Racecars team did this weekend. Jacob was doing a great job working his way to the front, and sometimes you just cannot buy a break. I've had a lot of fun with Jacob this year and am proud of all that he has accomplished in just one season," said Scott Sr. about Moslers performance.

"Sam deserved to win this race and I feel awful about the finishing result he ended up with. Watching him qualify on the pole and lead the race were special moments for all of us that we won't soon forget. He worked hard all weekend with a level of maturity that I did not expect from such a young man. Being only Sam's second start in the Trans Am Series, he impressed us all," said Scott Lagasse Sr.
