Sheehan Back in the Top Ten at COTA Showdown

Austin, TX - October 7, 2019 - Twenty-five laps of the genuinely awesome Circuit of the Americas is a grueling test for any car and driver, and in a hot messy race where the yellow flag stood in for the yellow rose of Texas, Tom Sheehan in the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang was pleased enough to make the top ten at the checkered flag. It was a race that fired off with much promise for the Damon Racing team with one more race to go before winter quarters.
Round 12 of the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship saw 32 cars competing in the TA2 Class at the Formula One designated COTA facility, a modern track with demanding straights and tight chicanes perhaps better suited to single seat, open-wheel racers.
The Damon Racing team found its best pace in a time of 2:16:668 on Lap 3 of the official practice session. Car changes to improve the pace missed the track conditions for qualifying and the LTK Mustang qualified just outside the top ten in P11.
As the race got underway on Sunday, Tom Sheehan improved from 11th to 7th, registering a fastest lap of 2:18:678 on Lap 13. At the checkered flag after 25 laps, Tom was in tenth place but a penalty for Misha Goikhberg allowed the team to claim P9 in the official classification.
"We get out of here with a finish and a car that's clean and head down to Daytona." Tom told us after the race. "Not a great weekend. We kind of struggled for some pace and in the race more of the same. We finished where we started, didn't keep what we pick up, really struggled with the car late in the race, so on speed we did what we showed all weekend for the finish."
"We're just going to head to Daytona and that's a great track, we love that track. I really love driving down there, and have a million laps [at Daytona]. Looking forward to something a little less jinky with some more speed. I think we'll show well down there. That'll finish us out for the season and I'll be looking forward to next year, that's for sure!"
The traditional finale of the Trans Am season at Daytona International Speedway takes place this year November 12 to 14.
