Late Race Charge Just Short of Top Finish for Sheehan at Road America

Elkhart Lake, WI. - August 26, 2019 - Motorsports can be a very challenging arena, being the only competitive sport where the participants have multiple variables at the mercy of third-party components. That fact was amply demonstrated at Road America in Round 9 of the 2019 Trans Am presented by Pirelli Championship TA2 class this weekend for Tom Sheehan in the No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Ford Mustang, who started and finished in P17 despite getting up to eighth place in the race and lapping at a pace commensurate with a higher placed finish.

Tom's best lap time of 2:16:774 in the race dubbed The Ryan Companies Muscle Car Challenge was top-ten pace, but a series of mechanical issues meant he was unable to finish the job. It all meant a weekend of frustration for the Damon Racing team who have worked tirelessly on the Mustang only to see their efforts undone by circumstances entirely beyond their control. The team were forced to put a new rear-end in the car but that didn't stop Tom making the top ten in second practice with a time of 2:15:044.

During the race a recurrence of rear-end failure saw Sheehan complete 18 of the scheduled 24 laps, and he was philosophical about events at the Elkhart Lake circuit when he spoke after the race, "Obviously I'm disappointed and the whole team is disappointed. We worked so hard and showed glimmers of hope. We had mechanical failures all weekend. Brand new stuff. Components from two different manufactures breaking. I took care of the car. It's just bad luck."

The large fields for the TA2 class make it comfortably the most competitive section of the Trans Am Series. The pressure on the teams as well as the machinery is relentless and continues at Watkins Glen the weekend of September 5-7, so the New Hampshire based LTK Damon Racing outfit have a little under two weeks to prepare for what is always an iconic event at the former Formula One Grand Prix circuit.
