MONTEREY, CALIF (5 May, 2019) – The notorious WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca Corkscrew turn factored heavily for the 27 TA2 powered by AEM drivers during Sunday morning’s Trans Am Series powered by Pirelli qualifying. With temperatures cooler than when the teams practiced on Saturday afternoon, drivers found that the diving, multi-turn corner was even more difficult than normal.

The 15-minute qualifying session was cut short by five minutes after the No. 92 Chevrolet Camaro of Scott Lagasse Jr. crashed entering the Corkscrew in Turn 8. Fortunately, Lagasse emerged unscathed, although his car was unable to continue. With a difficult extraction and track clean up needed, the Trans Am series officials decided to call an early end to the session.

Marc Miller in the No. 40 Prefix Stevens-Miller Racing Dodge Challenger managed to drive around the drama to set a fast lap of 1:29.964-seconds to take pole position.

“This track is very tricky on cold tires and quite sandy when drivers push too soon,” explained Miller. “I was fortunate to set a decent lap and my flyer two laps in a row. I still didn’t get all the lap but it was like that for everyone considering the conditions and the shortened session. I’m super happy for Prefix and all the staff at home cheering us on. I really wish my family could have been here to make it even more special. I am ecstatic to give Stevens-Miller Racing and Dodge their first pole in a couple of years.”

Sharing the front row with Miller will be Ethan Wilson in the No. 25 BCRaceCars/WesternGrindingService Chevrolet Camaro. The California-native’s speed carried over from Saturday as he was also second fastest in practice on Saturday.

“The BCRaceCars Chevrolet Carmero powered by K-Tech had some good pace yesterday and I knew that the challenge would be the track today,” said Wilson. “We really kind of laid back so we wouldn’t catch up with the rest of the group to give me a gap to get in a clean lap. It paid off. I got in one good lap. I hit it just right and it’s a good thing I did because cars started going off pushing dirt up on the track. We are really happy with the P2 start.”

Thomas Merrill, who laid down top times in yesterday’s practice, failed to turn times in short qualifying session. As drivers pulled through the pits for qualifying, Merrill suffered mechanical issues that forced his team to push him back to the paddock.

“We had some issues at the beginning of qualifying,” said Merrill. “We used the time to sort out problems since it’s such a fast turn around from qualifying to the race.”

A pair of Ford Mustags will line up in Row 2 with Dillon Machavern in the No. 77 Liqui-Molly/Prefix and Lawless Alan in the No. 52 AutoParkIT. Keith Procuik in the HP Tuners Chevrolet Camaro and Elias Anderson in the AccioDat/SampsonRace/TFBPerform Ford Mustang round out the top-six.
