Fields Racing confirms 2016 racing schedule for the Trans Am championship serie
May 31, 2016
(TEAM RELEASE) The TA2 team will begin a four-race schedule at the Chevrolet Detroit Belle Isle Grand Prix, a double-header weekend June 4-5, where the Trans Am series will celebrate its 50 year anniversary. Additional stops will include: Virginia International Raceway September 23-24,
NOLA Motorsport Park October 14-15 and Circuit of the Americas November 3-5.
For now, the team is focused on the task at hand - preparing their #96 Chevy Camaro for Detroit.
“We are honored to be part of this historic Trans Am weekend. Our team is ready to compete and we couldn’t ask for a better way to start our season, said Chris Liesfeld, Team owner.
We are thrilled to have Kyle Marcelli behind the wheel again this year. We worked well together last season, fine tuning our chassis and racing as many events as we could. I am really looking forward to getting our car back into the mix.”
As for Marcelli, he welcomes the opportunity to race in Trans Am when ever he can.
“I’m pleased to join Fields Racing again in 2016 for a confirmed four race program. Our goal for 2015 was to develop the M1 Chassis and prove that it was capable to race up front in the competitive TA2 category of the SCCA Trans Am Series. We accomplished that goal as we fought for podium and ended with a P4 finish at Circuit of the Americas. Our goal for 2016 is to run a selected four race program, continue to develop the M1 Chassis but also focus our attention on team development, corporate partnerships and securing customers that will race the M1 Chassis.”
Going into the Detroit Grand Prix weekend the team hopes to build on the momentum gained from that 2015 Circuit of the Americas finish and maintain it throughout 2016. Team Manager Lee Quinlan reflects, “We definitely gained confidence and some valuable insights at COTA, and we are eager to put what we learned into practice this season. I know we can race at the front and we will do everything we can do stay there. The only thing left to do is go racing”.
