Mitch Davis announced as Team Manger for Steve Petty Motorsports

Davis teams with Dallenbach and Petty in advance of Trans Am season opener

SUMMIT POINT, WV (February 10, 2015) – Steve Petty Motorsports (SPM) has formally announced the addition of racing industry veteran Mitch Davis as Team Manager for the 2016 Trans Am Championship, the 50th Anniversary Season of the North American road racing series.

Davis will bring his 40 years of motorsports experience into play for SPM as it prepares for its debut season in Trans Am’s TA2 class. With time spent at AJ Foyt Enterprises, Rahal Letterman Lanigan Racing, Chip Ganassi Racing, Newman Haas Racing, Galles Racing, Patrick Racing and Roush Racing, Davis has a wealth of knowledge, and success, in racing—all of which will come into play as the SPM team looks to make an immediate impact in Trans Am’s TA2 class.

Davis’ expertise will be paired with two other veterans of the sport, Wally Dallenbach, Jr., and Steve Petty as they prepare for the team’s debut season and their individual returns to the Trans Am Series. With Davis onboard, driver and team owner Steve Petty likes the SPM team’s chances in 2016.

“When you have an opportunity to bring a talent like Mitch onboard, it s ultimately an easy decision,” said Petty. “When Wally and I decided to put together this team we knew we could be competitive, but now with Mitch assuming the role of team manager and really taking over the competition direction of the team, we both feel that we will be contending for wins quickly in 2016.”

“I am looking forward to working with everyone at Steve Petty Motorsports and building a team to compete in the SCCA Trans Am Series,” said Davis. “Wally Dallenbach and I have worked together in the past and had some great success. I would like to thank Steve for this opportunity and I’m excited to get to work.”

SPM will debut two new Howe Racing built 2016 GEN 6 TA2 Chevrolet Camaros, piloted by Steve Petty and Wally Dallenbach, Jr., at the 2016 Trans Am Championship season opener at Sebring International Raceway, March 4 and 5.

In addition, SPM will be adding a third customer car in advance of Round 3 of the 2016 Trans Am Championship at Watkins Glen, May 14 and 15. Interested parties may inquire at info@drivespm.com with the subject line “RACE TEAM.”
