TRB Autosport prepares a second TA2 car for 2016
February 2, 2016

TEAM RELEASE - 2016 brings expansion and growth in the Trans Am Road Racing Series for Wisconsin’s TRB Autosport. Troy Benner’s team has fielded Trans Am veteran Tim Gray’s Chevy Camaro TA2 car previously. With 2016 and the 50th Anniversary of the Trans Am Series at hand TRB is bringing a team car to the stable and is actively looking for a driver to fill the seat.
In 2015 Gray ran seven Trans Am Series races with a best finish of 20th in the season opening race at Sebring. Tim finished the season 36th in TA2 championship points. Gray spent much of the 2015 season getting used to the changes in his racing mount as he traded in his Porsche 911 GT3 Cup race car from TA3 International class racing up to the much different brute power of the TA2 Camaro.
“It’s a big change for Tim from that Porsche to manhandling the TA2 car. But we are looking forward to Sebring,” said TRB team owner Benner. “We are getting to return to tracks now that Tim has been to with the new car and he is getting faster. We were at Sebring for the SCCA club racing event and he has picked up 2 seconds over last year already. We think the will find more time in March and that trend will continue as the season progresses.”
Gray is not planning a full season again in 2016.
“Tim’s work schedule just doesn’t allow him to make all the races,” continued Gray, “but we will see him in 7 to 9 events this season.”
“I really enjoy the competition and the people in the series and will get to as many races this year as I can,” commented Gray. The Ryan Industries #60 Camaro will start 2016 in the lineup at Sebring for the season opener.
With that settled Benner is ready to add a second TA2 Camaro to his Trans Am garage. “The car will be available for the full season. It will be a Howe chassis Camaro.” Benner said. “Trans Am really has a good thing going right now. The growth in the series throughout all the classes and particularly in TA2 has been really impressive. There is a lot of interest and it can be hard to find an available seat for arrive and drive racers. That is what we want to be able to offer.”
Benner reports that the second car will be available for the full 12 race set or on a race to race basis depending on what the driver is interested in.
Benner has a long history in racing. “I had been involved for a long time in the Indycar ladder system. The Mazda Road To Indy. That series relied heavily on rental car programs and it makes sense for us to bring that offering to the Trans Am Series.” Said Benner.
“I’ve always loved V8 racing and while people might know what an Indycar is there is an instant recognition in someone’s eyes when they ask what kind of cars we race and we can answer that we race Camaros against Mustangs. Everybody knows what those are.”
