Pitboxes.com ‘Crew of the Race’ Award Honors Behind-the-Scenes Trans Am Competitors
June 12, 2015

One of the newest partners in the Trans Am paddock in 2015 is Stockbridge, Ga.-based Pitboxes.com, the designer and fabricator of custom pitboxes used in a variety of racing series, including the Trams Am.
Pitboxes.com owner Ricky Sanders, who also is a Trans Am competitor, decided he wanted to honor the efforts of the behind-the-scenes participants in the series and the Trans Am series worked with him to create the ‘Pitboxes.com Crew of the Race.’ At each event on the 2015 schedule, Pitboxes.com singles out a team for its extraordinary effort in the paddock.
The first event of the season at Sebring, Fla., found the award going to the Kryderacing team that supports the efforts of TA driver David Pintaric and his red-white-and-blue, #57 Chevrolet Corvette. The team overcame extensive mechanical difficulties, allowing the Ohio driver to make the start of the 100-mile race.
At Round 2 in Homestead, Fla., the Lamers Racing team supporting TA2 driver Tony Ave rose to the challenge of getting Ave’s secondary car set to race and he managed to qualify it sixth for the south Florida race.
The Trans Am stop at Road Atlanta saw the #67 crew of Jason Berkeley pull an all-nighter after getting a critical part that allowed Berkeley to start from the back of the field. He went on to finish second in the TA3 International class.
Round 4 of the 2015 Trans Am was at Connecticut’s Lime Rock Park and the Pitboxes.com award went to the Breathless Racing Team. The TA3 American Muscle crew was honored for their efforts in bringing home driver Ernie Francis, Jr., first and teammate Mel Shaw in third.
The winning crew at each event receives a $200 pitboxes.com product certificate and the ‘Crew of the Year,’ will receive $2,000. Crew of the Race and Crew of the Year selections are made by the Trans Am racing event staff.
