2016 Ford Mustang to join Cadillac CTS-V in Trans Am’s TA class

MIAMI, Fla. [October 27, 2015] – One of road racing’s iconic classes is set to take another step forward as the Trans Am Race Company announces a partnership with Advanced Composite Products (ACP), bringing a new wave of modern bodywork to the TA class.

The incoming exclusives from ACP include the recently released Cadillac CTS-V, and the soon to be introduced 2016 Ford Mustang— completing a new era of bodywork for the iconic makes and models prevalent throughout the TA class’ history.

“The TA class remains one of the greatest racing platforms of all time,” said John Clagett, President of The Trans Am Race Company. “Plenty of racing classes have come and gone throughout a multitude of series, but the TA class—the traditional “Trans Am” car— remains, better than ever. Now we’ve taken an important step towards securing its future by bringing forth new, relevant bodies that work towards creating a modern and marketable class that retains what is, with no exaggeration, one of the best platforms for racing in the world.”

The two new bodies will join the C7 Chevrolet Corvette, released in TA class form in 2014, as a fresh new face for the class, which is currently, along with all of the Trans Am Series, undergoing a revival.

“I’ve experienced first hand the growth and momentum that Trans Am is undergoing,” said Kerry Hitt, owner of ACP and a veteran of the TA class. “We want to contribute to that success and help the TA class take that next step. Over the past decade we’ve seen this platform evolve—continuous refinement paired with additional power; it’s an intoxicating formula for drivers with a lot of potential. We’re working on finalizing Ford Mustang currently and once it’s finished and up for sale we hope to turn our efforts to the Chevrolet Camaro and potentially the Dodge Challenger if we get enough interest— completing a new era of modern bodywork for one of racing’s true driver’s platforms.”

While the Cadillac CTS-V is currently available and is currently featured on Hitt’s own car and that of two-time defending Champion Doug Peterson, ACP is currently in the final stages of refinement on the 2016 Ford Mustang. Trans Am plans to commence the 2016 season, the Series’ 50th Anniversary, with both bodies featuring in the field and ready for purchase.
