10 Days of Champions - Steve Goldman: TA Western Championship
December 15, 2024
Steve Goldman drove to his second-consecutive championship in his No. 13 LIG Racing Chevrolet Corvette, capturing the TA title in the Western Championship. Competing in five events, Goldman captured four victories while overcoming challenges along the way.
Goldman started the season with a victory at Thunderhill Raceway Park despite battling a transmission issue through the weekend.
“Well, I'm happy I brought it home in one piece,” said Goldman with a laugh. “I really want to thank Connor and Tim and John who make all of this happen. It was challenging. I've been battling my transmission all weekend; it's been popping out of gear. So, that's been a big distraction.”
Goldman’s LIG Racing team once again struggled with transmission issues in the next round at Sonoma Raceway, but he still stood on the top step of the podium in Race 1.
“We pulled the better part of an all-nighter fixing the transmission because we had a dog here that blew up,” said Goldman. “Luckily, we had some parts. Just being out there was quite an accomplishment. Big shout-out to the quality of all these drivers; best field I've ever been a part of. Just really impressive, all the drivers and all the crews. Thanks for letting me run with you guys.”
Two more victories at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca and Race 1 at Portland International Raceway were enough to secure Goldman his second Trans Am title.
“It took a true team effort to overcome our share of mechanical issues this season, including freak events like a new transmission dog ring exploding on the front straight at Sonoma,” said Goldman. “I owe a big debt of gratitude to Conor, John and Tim for making everything with LIG Racing possible, and to Christian, John B. and Dan for pinch hitting at critical times. Sharing the season with you all made the experience priceless. We are grateful to race at such iconic tracks, with the best and most experienced racers, and appreciate the professionalism of the whole Trans Am Series team for running such great events.”
