Holden Motorsports

Holden Motorsports is a privateer team started in 1977 in a carport In Lynwood Washington with a 1964 impala which Rob Holden (father of Jeff) built it into a figure 8 car. Two championships in that car lead to a latemodel/super stock on the oval track and 2 more championships by the time Jeff was born in 1983. Holden Motorsports has also collected several land speed world records at the salt flats, raced gokarts, baby grands, TA1, gt2, gt1 and the great American stockcar series. Jeff and brother Mike shared their first racing cart and races in two different age group classes in the same cart, they have both been hooked ever since.
Jeff and Rob built this TA2 car, in the garage behind the house, from a bare chassis and did every bit of the build themselves, even the paint was done by Jeff and Bel-kirk body shop provided the paint booth time for that.
This is a low budget, high experience father son team who just wanted to put their skills up against the best in the world to see how they stacked up. We have a few volunteers who come help at the track here and there. Jeff’s older brother Mike shows up to play spotter when he’s not racing something else himself. Mike and Jeff have been spotting for each other ever since they stopped racing latemodels against each other in the same series way back in 2010. One of Jeff’s other volunteer spotters said aces legend cars and Jeff returns and favor by spotting for him at his races.0
For Jeff, this is a Hail Mary attempt to prove that they belong at the top tier of road racing and lock themselves into a long term sustainable situation so he can continue to travel with his family around the country and his own children grow up around racetracks like he did. Both Jeff and Rob still work a regular full time day job so this is a massive effort to keep up with the large teams with multiple full time crew members.
This team is a full family effort. Jeff’s wife and mother are both a huge part of making this happen. From making meals and bringing them to the shop because the car has to get worked on every single day for months on end with such a small crew, to packing and logistics, to all the work it takes to get through a race weekend. We sleep in the race trailer in the pits at the track to be able to, not only afford it, but to also to have time to get all the work done at the track with such a small team as we usually work late into the evening/night to get ready for the next day.
We are one of the fastest privateer teams and our goal is to be a threat on the national tour level and find funding to go run the national series in years to come. Jeff had never driven these tracks or a TA2 car prior to last year so we expect big gains now that we have a little familiarity with the tracks and setup.
