Van Lierop becomes first Howe Long Haul winner

(Partner Release) Jeff Van Lierop has become the very first winner of the Howe Racing Enterprises Long Haul Award in The Trans Am 2 class. The resident of Olympia, Washington made the selection easy with his 3,202 mile trip to the Trans Am season opener at Sebring Florida. The Van Lierop transporter spent over 56 hours of driving time one way to cross the continental united States from the northwest to the southeast.

The $850 product award will help offset the teams added travel expenses. Jeff had a rough start during a very rainy Thursday practice day at Sebring. He was not the only car to discover the exceptionally slick conditions created by the cool and rainy weather in the sunshine state. The Washington state based crew lead by Chris Rhom made quick work of maintenance and repairs and kept the Country Green Turf, Rhom Innovations Chevrolet Camaro ready to answer the bell throughout the race weekend. Van Lierop completed the Foametrix 100 on Sunday with a respectable top twenty finish in the record 34 car TA2 field. The Evergreen state driver also finished ninth among the registered Wilwood Rookie of the Year competitors.

The Howe Long Haul Award goes to the team that is competing in a Howe chassis who has traveled the furthest distance to compete in that event. Each team may only win the award once during the 12 event season. Winners are determined by Howe based on the travel distance from the home base of the team. The next award winner will follow the April 12th event at Homestead, Florida.

Howe Racing Enterprises was founded in 1971 and has been involved in the TA2 class since its inception in 2011. Howe produces a wide variety of specialized racing components in addition to partial and complete cars for asphalt racing worldwide.
