UNIQUE 2020 SEASON ENDS WITH SHOWTIME CHAMPIONSHIP HONORS

Franklin, TENNESSEE - January 8, 2021 - 2020 was a uniquely challenging season for all those involved in Trans Am racing, but there were some tremendous success stories in spite of the difficulties presented by the pandemic. Among the innovations for 2020 was the introduction of the Xtreme GT Class, providing Trans Am fans with a glimpse of the European cars that tend to dominate sports car racing on both sides of the Atlantic.

Eight cars competed in the inaugural XGT events in 2020, and the names read like a roll call of thoroughbred sport car manufacturers. Aston Martin, Porsche, AMG Mercedes and a lone Chevrolet Corvette but coming out a clear top was the Audi R8 LMS Ultra belonging to Tennessee based Ken Thwaits. Ken created history with his haul of 253 Championship points, with wins at Brainerd, Road America, Virginia and Atlanta.

The phrase "hand in glove" is often misused but is entirely appropriate for Ken's integration into the Trans Am scene, where he has been rewarded with new friends, competition and of course, the XGT Championship.

For the first time in its history, Trans Am fans are being invited to the traditional end of season Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli Honors Banquet. Perhaps not surprisingly, this season's awards ceremony will be held online on January 10 with the live stream starting at 4:00 p.m. Eastern on the Trans Am Series presented by Pirelli Racing app.

"We had a fabulous first year in Trans Am. In view of the circumstances, it could hardly have been better. It's great that we're having the awards and that fans will be part of it. No one could have predicted the year we had but it's behind us now and we're looking forward to 2021," stated Ken this week from his Volunteer State Headquarters.

We fully expect Ken to be back behind the wheel of the stunning black Audi when the action resumes at Sebring International Raceway, February 19-21.
