Trans Am ready for 2015, history, with 70-car entry slated for Foametix 100 at Sebring

Series releases initial entry list for 2015 Trans Am Championship opener

MIAMI, Fla. [February 10] - When the Trans Am Series takes to the track at Sebring International Raceway on Sunday, March 1, 2015, for the Foametix Trans Am 100, it will do so with a complement of 70 cars— the largest to ever start a Trans Am race, breaking a 48-year-old record set at Sebring in 1967.

The initial entry list released by Series management features cars and competitors from all three classes, with 19 members from the TA class, 34 from TA2, and 17 from TA3’s International and American Muscle Groups. The TA2 field marks the largest ever for the class, an important milestone in its continued growth, as it shatters the previous class high of 26 set at Mid-Ohio Sports Car Course last year.

“Everyone in the Trans Am family can be proud of this achievement,” said John Clagett, President of The Trans Am Race Company. “Our staff, owners, drivers and teams, this is a milestone achievement for all of them, and a great way to start the 2015 Trans Am Championship. We expect all class entries to continue to grow throughout the year, and we are all very excited to see what 2015 holds for Trans Am.”

It seems only fitting that the new record entry comes at Sebring, the track where it all began for Trans Am in 1966 and where the previous record entry took place in 1967— setting the stage for Trans Am to charge into a new season, and potentially a new era, for America’s Road Racing Series.

How to watch: The Foametix Trans Am 100 at Sebring International Raceway will be broadcast on CBS Sports Network on Tuesday, March 17 at 8:00 PM, EDT.

Entry List as of 02/10/2015
