Trans Am closes out day’s festivities with practice and second chance qualifying at Road America

Ruman, Machavern, Kezman and Napieralski lead practice while Lustig capitalizes on second chance qualifying

ELKHART LAKE, Wisc.  [AUGUST 26, 2016] –  Trans Am teams and drivers took advantage of a final practice session on the Road America track in preparation for tomorrow’s TA2 ETE Reman Transmissions Muscle Car 100 Presented by Pura Vida Tequila and TA, TA3 and TA4 Trans Am 100.  In addition, two drivers took advantage of second chance qualifying in an attempt to improve their starting positions in their respective competitions.

In the TA class, defending Champion Amy Ruman, in the No. 23 McNichols Company Chevrolet Corvette, set the fast lap of her session with a 2:06.620, just off her official qualifying time of 2:05.557.  Ruman and the McNichols 23 will start tomorrow’s race in third position.

Ruman was followed in the TA class by Vincent Allegretta, in the No. 41 TA Sights and Sounds/ Dr. Dave Chevrolet Corvette, who turned a 2:07.824 lap, close to his qualifying time of 2:07.183.   John Baucom, RJ Lopez and Paul Fix also featured in the session top five with times of 2:08.195, 2:08.980 and 2:10.038, respectively.

TA2 was led by Dillon Machavern, in the No. 24 Heritage Motorsports Ford Mustang, who turned a 2:16.506, a second off of his 2:15.516 time in qualifying earlier today that landed him fifth starting position on the TA2 grid.

Barely a tenth of a second behind Machavern was defending TA2 champion Gar Robinson, in the No. 74 Pura Vida Tequila/ 74 Ranch Resort Chevrolet Camaro, who turned a 2:16.513 lap.  Louis Phillipe Montour, in the No. 12 DCW Dodge Challenger, was third quick in the session with a 2:17.195, while Shane Lewis and Keith Prociuk completed the session top five with times of 2:17.383 and 2:17.418, respectively.

In TA3 the Fall-Line Motorsports team of Tim Kezman, in the No. 4 FallLine/Calypso/Beverage Flavor Intl. Porsche 997, and Mark Boden, in the No. 47 FallLine/Calypso/ Beverage Flavor Intl. Porsche 997 capped off their day with the top two spots in the class’ session with times of 2:18.710 and 2:20.626, respectively.   They were followed in the session by Conor Flynn, in the No. 95 Irish Mike’s Automotive Porsche 997, who turned a 2:21.564.   The class top five was completed by the Lux Performance duo of Steve Streimer and Cindi Lux, with times of 2:21.976 and 2:29.917, respectively.

Todd Napieralski, in the No. 39 Tremec/SKF/Backstreet Chevrolet Camaro, led the TA4 class with a time of 2:25.874, well off his qualifying time of 2:21.966 that will see him start second in TA3 come tomorrow’s Trans Am 100.  He was followed in TA3 by Rich Jones, in the No. 47 JOMAC/Sparta Steel Ford Mustang, and Chris Outzen, in the No. 97 DWW Motorsports Ford Mustang, with times of 2:28.690 and 2:30.150.

Only two drivers elected to re-qualify, Steven Lustig, in the TA2 No. 05 Autosport Group Ford Mustang, and Mark Luna, in the TA4 Blue Moon Guitar/ Hoyt Ford Mustang.  Lustig’s 2:20.491 turned in “second chance” qualifying was a strong enough improvement on his 2:22.718 “Fast Five” qualifying time to move his starting position from 17th to 15th.  However, Mark Luna was unable to turn a lap during either “Fast Five” or “second chance” qualifying, and will start last on the TA3/TA4 grid.
