Three Drivers, Including Brent Crews, Making TA Debut at Road America, Mike Skeen Joins TA2

Since the release of our race preview, there’s been a few interesting additions to this weekend’s entry list. Here are a few more things you need to know about this weekend’s races at Road America:

Brent Crews will finally make his Trans Am TA class debut. After illness kept him out of the car at Sebring International Raceway, Crews is getting behind the wheel of the No. 2 Mobil 1/Conopy Roofing Dodge Challenger this weekend, driving for Weaver Racing Concepts. The No. 2 car was driven to GYM WEED Winners Circle at Road America by a ringer driver just two years ago when Kaz Grala drove it to his first-career Trans Am victory. “Everyone at Weaver Racing Concepts is thrilled to finally have Brent behind the wheel of our car; we can’t wait to see how this weekend goes,” said team owner Pancho Weaver.

Drissi Motorsports will be fielding a third entry this weekend in the TA class. In addition to Tomy Drissi (No. 8 Drissi Motorsports/Franklin Road Apparel Chevrolet Camaro) and Keith Grant (No. 40 Drissi Motorsports/Franklin Road Apparel Chevrolet Camaro), Don Yount will join the team in the No. 7 Drissi Motorsports/Lucas/Mission Chevrolet Camaro. Yount, who has previously driven to victory in the 6 Hours of Watkins Glen and earned a podium in the Rolex 24 at Daytona, tested with Drissi Motorsports in Sebring before the season opener.

“[Don] had never been in a car like this, and he did a really good job despite it being one of the most difficult tracks,” said Drissi of Yount after the test. “When he got out of the car, he looked at it as if it was some sort of fire-breathing dragon and said, ‘What is this monster?’”

Another addition to the TA class this weekend is Raymond Kobs from Norwell, Mass., who will be driving the No. 00 Big Dipper Motorsports Chevrolet Camaro. Making his Trans Am Series debut, Kobs has experience racing Miatas in SCCA.

In the CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series, Mike Skeen has been added to the entry list, driving the No. 17 Team SLR-M1 Racecars Chevrolet Camaro. This will be his first time driving for Team SLR, but he has previously raced the M1 chassis while competing with Peterson Racing in 2022 and 2023. Skeen has a previous victory at Road America, winning the race in 2020 on his way to securing the TA2 championship. He also scored a second-place finish at the track in 2021.

The CUBE 3 Architecture TA2 Series hits the track today with two test sessions, with practice and qualifying tomorrow and the race on Saturday at 1:05 PM ET/12:05 PM CT. The TA/XGT/SGT/GT classes will test tomorrow and practice and qualify on Saturday. The green flag will wave for that race on Sunday at 2:05 PM ET/1:05 PM CT.
