Strong FOAMETIX® Corvette C7.R Finish at Sebring International Raceway

(Team Release) Sebring, FL – March 1, 2015 – The season opener for the Trans Am series Championship got started in record breaking fashion this weekend at Sebring International Raceway with no fewer than 69 cars taking the green flag to start the 100-mile, 75-minute FOAMETIX® race.
Despite a variety of weather conditions in the region throughout the weekend making conditions highly challenging, the Burtin Racing crew found speed improvements and made impressive gains. During the 13-minute “Fast Five” qualifications round on Saturday, Burtin put the FOAMETIX® car in the 13th starting position for Sunday’s race. Neither torrential rain, high winds or humid sunshine could halt their progress come race day when it was clear that the No. 7 FOAMETIX® Chevrolet Corvette C7.R piloted by sportscar specialist Claudio Burtin was a machine to be contended with amongst the series top competitors.
The highly awaited start of the FOAMETIX® 100 got underway Sunday afternoon with a green race track from rain earlier on and cleared up with abundant sunshine. Burtin made his first pass on Lap 1 and successfully charged the field of Trans Am cars getting quickly up to the Top 5.
At the end of the race, Burtin was fighting for position with Cliff Ebben and both drivers were racing hard on the final lap. As they approached Turn 16 contact was made to the right rear of the No. 7 FOAMETIX® Corvette from Jim Mcaleese coming up to Turn 16.
From a potentially disastrous situation, Burtin made an excellent recovery from the last lap altercation and was able to bring home a highly creditable seventh place finish.
“The race went pretty good this weekend here at Sebring,” said Burtin. “We had a lot of yellow flag laps but there really wasn’t as much traffic as I thought there would be. Towards the end of the race the tires started to wear as we were fighting hard to keep that Top 5 position but had contact and were able to pick it back up. We are going to work on engine development now and look forward to the next round in Homestead.”
“Claudio did a fantastic job this weekend and we shook a lot of bugs off the car here,” said Gary Selix, Burtin Racing Crew Chief. “I am very impressed with my crew and they did an impressive job with setup changes and giving our driver what he needed for the race. Now, it’s on to the next one as we look forward to Homestead.”
The No. 7 FOAMETIX® Chevrolet Corvette C7.R looks certain to be highly competitive throughout this Trans Am season.
