Franklin, TN - June 10, 2020 - The newly established XGT Trans Am class returns to the track at Mid Ohio at the end of the month, and it's going to be a particularly busy weekend for Ken Thwaits and his stable of high performance Audi R8s. In addition to the Trans Am event, there is an International GT race taking place the same weekend alongside SVRA, meaning Ken will be very busy with track time on the weekend getting back to racing action! Moreover, Ken's team, the Franklin Apparel sponsored Showtime Motorsports, are taking both of the Audi R8 supercars to Lexington, Ohio while Ken can keep his options open and make a late call about which car to race in the Trans Am presented by Pirelli feature event.
Ken managed to exercise the technologically advanced Audi at a private event on the west coast recently, but in spite of the paucity of competition in his class at Mid Ohio, he will undoubtedly be keen to notch as many points as possible to confirm his status as a serious competitor for XGT Champion come the fall. That's a long way off for now, and like the rest of us, Ken is just pleased to be racing again after the hiatus of recent months. We may not be back to normal yet, but we are getting there and seeing full Trans Am grids is a definite step in the right direction.
As team principal and number one wheelman at Showtime, Ken was understandably excited about the upcoming weekend when we spoke to him this week, "We're taking both cars to Mid Ohio. I'm going to test drive the white and black Audi on the SVRA test day, and whichever car is faster he will run in the XGT Trans Am event."
Ken went on to highlight the outstanding opportunity there is for the right person to step behind the wheel and compete in one of the fantastic Audis when he added, "The white car is prepped and ready to go! We're looking for a driver that is a good fit for the Audi Customer Racing program. It's a really excellent car and opportunity. Showtime has a lot to offer with a proven GT3 platform."
While Trans Am is the focus of the weekend, the International GT Racing is sharing the stage and uniquely gives Ken and his team a second opportunity to get on the track. International GT is a North American racing series that includes The Stuttgart Cup, Mission Foods GT3 Cup Trophy and The Maranello Cup championships for late model Porsche, Ferrari and now Audi competitors.
