Sheehan and LTK Insulation Technologies Team Earn Solid P13 Finish at Road America
July 10, 2023

Elkhart Lake, WISCONSIN – July 10, 2023 – Tom Sheehan and his No. 97 LTK Insulation Technologies Damon Racing Ford Mustang team had a steady, methodical race at Road America.
Tom and his diligent crew worked ardently on the car throughout the 3-Dimensional Services Group 100 weekend. Given Tom’s solid track record at the 4.048-mile, 14-turn road course, the “Ironman” entered the 25-lap with a fresh, confident mindset.
Prior to this race weekend, Tom tallied six Top 10 finishes in his past 11 starts at the FIA Grade 2 track. Despite struggling for pace in the test and practice sessions, the New Hampshire racer qualified P20 for Sunday’s race.
When race day arrived, Tom was as prepared as the quality line of products from LTK Insulation Jackets for business owners.
Dropping to P22 on Lap 2, Tom worked his way up to P15 eight laps later before the race’s only full course caution. Once the race was back underway on Lap 12, Tom continued his charge inside the Top 15, driving up to P14 on Lap 18.
From there, Tom focused on achieving maximum results similarly to LTK Pro-Fit Insulation Jackets providing homeowners with pipes against the extreme elements.
In the closing moments of the race, Tom picked up another valuable position to solidify a respectable P13 result. Following Sunday’s 25-lap race, Tom spoke to our reporter about his workmanlike performance.
“We got that first caution that bunched us back up,” Tom said. “I was really digging after that first caution. I had Danny Bender a couple of times (for P12) and just couldn’t finish the deal. But I was working on him. We didn't have any pressure from the rear. We were fast enough to hold the lead pack but just not fast enough to get by anybody.
“We had a good car, but we’re just a little bit down on speed. We’ve got to find a little bit more to be able to get by some guys. We hung in there and kept it on the racetrack for the most part. We’ll take it and go on down to Nashville.”
Tom’s smooth performance and execution at Road America boosted him to P18 in the championship standings. More importantly, Tom is only 41 points away from P14 in the standings with five races remaining.
For now, Tom and his competitors have a three week reprieve until the Big Machine Music City Grand Prix on August 3 – 5. The TA2 field takes on the Nashville Street Circuit as one of the main events during the INDYCAR Series race weekend.
In two prior starts, Tom’s best result is P17 achieved in the 2021 inaugural race at the 2.17-mile, 11-turn street circuit. The unique venue’s best passing opportunity is the 3,578-foot straightway across the Korean War Veterans Memorial Bridge.
Given Tom’s successful efforts in Detroit, the Series’ only other street course race, the Granite State driver may be in the mix for another strong result. Likewise, Tom hopes to improve upon his season best finish of P7 achieved in Race No. 2 of the Detroit Grand Prix.
Round 9 of the 2023 TA2 season commences with two practice sessions on Friday, August 4. Then, two, 20-minute group qualifying sessions decide the starting grid on Saturday, August 5.
Tom and his peers take to the street course for a 46-lap or 75-minute race around 3:45 p.m. CT. on Saturday, August 5.
This year, Trans Am races are available for live streaming on Trans Am and SpeedTour's YouTube channels, with full playbacks immediately available after the race. Additionally, the races can be seen in edited, 60-minute features broadcasted on MAVTV's Thursday night primetime slot at 8 p.m. ET.
