Rydquist Relishes “Early Christmas Present” After First National TA2 Test Drive

Sonoma, CALIFORNIA – December 20, 2021 - The Tennessee based Franklin Road Showtime Motorsports team are gearing up for the 2022 Trans Am season in determined fashion with the significant addition to the team of former TA2 National Champion Cameron Lawrence and 2021 West Coast TA2 Champion Carl Rydquist. Carl is competing in the National Championship for 2022 and got his first taste of the new Chevrolet Camaro he’ll be driving next season just this past week out West.

A successful test at Sonoma Raceway in California is where the ace pilot was obviously thrilled by the new car’s performance. According to reports, Rydquist “didn’t want to stop driving” following his first experience behind the wheel in the Showtime Motorsports Franklin Road Apparel Camaro TA2. Carl's initial comments of the setup, “It’s so responsive and super addictive.”

The ultra-professional Showtime outfit wasted no time after Carl was named race driver of the No. 4 Showtime Motorsports TA2 Camaro for 2022. In the weeks following the announcement, a TA2 Camaro has been prepared and setup with chassis components to give the fast Rydquist invaluable experience with the team and the car’s setup.

The Swedish-American reigning TA2 West Coast Champion started the day at Sonoma Raceway with installation laps and systems shakedown while navigating puddles and mud streams on the slick but damp track. After the first laps of testing an enthused Rydquist told the crew, “This is awesome, I can be fast immediately with this car.”

In the afternoon Rydquist would prove that statement. The California sun made the track conditions dry enough to begin hot lap sessions. In total Rydquist accumulated 30 laps at the track where he won the 2021 race in the West Coast Championship.

“My feeling today is just ‘Wow!’ The car is so responsive,” said Carl. “I didn’t expect that big of a difference. It’s a Mike Cope Racecar. My seat position, controls and view are exactly what I am used to. Underneath it felt like a different class car.”

It certainly promises to be a hugely exciting season for Carl and the Showtime Team and he was quick to pay tribute to Ken and his staff when he added, “Thank you, Ken, and the crew at Showtime Motorsports for helping make this familiarization possible. I didn’t want to stop driving. What a fantastic early Christmas present!”

A proven winner Carl will be hunting down wins and podium finishes when the new season gets underway with the traditional curtain raiser at Sebring International Raceway, February 24 to 27. Keep up to date with Carl and follow his progress via his social media hub at www.carlrydquist.com.
