Ruman Set for Trans Am 3-Dimensional Motor City 100, Duel in Detroit
June 2, 2016
Munroe Falls, Ohio – The Trans Am Series will have a show down in the Motor City – Detroit, MI – this weekend, a venue the Series as not visited since 2001, for the Motor City 100, presented by the 3-Dimensional Services Group. The two invitational races were announced in March 2016, as an addition to the Championship schedule to commemorate the 50th anniversary year of the Trans Am Series. The 26-car field comprised of the different Trans Am classes will compete in two 50-minute races, the first on Saturday June 4th, and on Sunday June 5th.
The teams will compete on the temporary 2.3-mile Detroit Grand Prix Raceway at Belle Isle Park street circuit, returning for the first time in 15 years. In addition to the Trans Am Duels this weekend, race fans will see a schedule that is packed with an unbelievable racing line-up featuring the Verizon IndyCar Series, IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship, and the SPEED Energy Stadium SUPER Trucks presented by TRAXXAS.
Defending Trans Am Champion Amy Ruman is excited to be heading to the Detroit Grand Prix, a place where father Bob Ruman, veteran Trans Am driver, competed many times during his career. “This is going to be a fantastic weekend in Detroit!” expressed Ruman. “I love street races and I am ecstatic to be a part of such a remarkable racing weekend. I’m looking forward to bringing Trans Am back to the fans of the motor city, and I know we are going to put on a great show for them in both races!”
What will be even more exciting, Ruman will be racing her original Trans Am car, the No. 23 McNichols Co. C5 Corvette, a car with rich history. This car has been driven by both Ruman and her father in 118 Trans Am races combined, and it was the car that Ruman drove to her first Trans Am win in 2011 at Road Atlanta. Since this is a non-championship points race, Ruman and her team opted to bring out the C5 due to the tight turnaround time for Round 4 of the Championship taking place the following weekend at New Jersey Motorsports Park. Ruman is the current point leader in the TA class.
Among the weekend’s festivities, the Trans Am Race Company will be hosting a 50th Anniversary Celebration Dinner. Trans Am legend and Champion, Tommy Kendall, will serve as the master of ceremonies and host for the program taking place at the Edison Institute, better known as the Henry Ford Museum. Many past and present Trans Am legends will be in attendance for the star studded event, taking place Thursday evening, June 2, 2016.

Also, a special thanks to the 3-Dimensional Services Group, the Motor City 100 races will be broadcast in a 90-minute special featuring both races on Saturday, July 2, 2016 on CBS Sports Network.
