Ron Richards joins Trans Am
January 29, 2015

MIAMI, Fla. (Jan. 28, 2015) – Looking to build on its continued and growing success, the Trans Am Race Company has added sports car and open wheel racing marketing and communications veteran Ron Richards to its team for 2015.
Richards, who has held positions in marketing, marketing communications and public relations throughout his career, will create marketing programs and seek sponsorship for Trans Am. He also will assist the series on special projects, when needed.
“We are fortunate and excited to have Ron returning to work with us on the Trans Am,” said John Clagett, president of the Trans Am Race Company, LLC. “He has an excellent understanding of how to integrate sport and motorsports into the workings of a business and sponsor. He’s seen sponsorship from all perspectives in his career and that gives him an advantage few individuals have.”
With his appointment, Richards has come full circle in his motorsports career. His first position in racing was leading the PR efforts for the SCCA Pro Racing’s Can-Am and, then, Trans Am series. He also served as head of communications at Championship Auto Racing Teams (CART) and worked in sports marketing and brand communications for 10 years at beer giants Miller and Coors. Most recently, Richards expanded his efforts into healthcare marketing and communications with medical device manufacturer, Covidien.
Richards started his independent communications and marketing practice, Mitchell Canyon Communications, in 2009. Since then, he managed several major communications projects for Covidien. During that time, he also worked on a comprehensive communications evaluation and analysis for NASCAR and assisted with PR and communications for college basketball and football bowl games for ESPN. Additionally, Richards is an author and his first book, Dodging Dandelions, was published just over a year ago.
“It’s terrific to be returning to my racing roots with the Trans Am,” said Richards. “It has a fantastic history and tradition. It’s great to be working again with John and the leadership at the Trans Am. In just a few years, the Series has quickly grown and reached a point where it’s ready to move to another level. I’m excited I can be a part of making that happen.”
