Rain prevails at Watkins Glen, slows second practice session
June 7, 2013

The first practice session of the weekend fell victim to a wet track and so was the second, as the mist slowly turned into rain, resulting in a slick track at Watkins Glen.
Twenty six drivers still took the opportunity to test out rain tires, iron out mechanical issues and practice switching out tire sets; but very few pushed their cars in the less than ideal conditions.
Paul Fix in the #4 StopFlex/Beebe Racing/PME/Lamers Chevrolet Corvette logged the fast lap of the session, turning a 2:15.883. Fix considers Watkins Glen his home track and has put in countless hours on the surface as a racer and driving instructor. His expertise at Watkins Glen showed as he led the session and was the only TA car to finish with a faster lap than the TA2 trio of Robert Huffmaster, Cameron Lawrence and Bob Stretch. Following Fix was the #15 Gateway Racing Corvette of Allan Lewis and the #55 Advanced Composite Chevrolet Corvette of Kerry Hitt.
Huffmaster, driver of the #27 Kryderacing/VirSec Chevrolet Camaro, finished the session second with a time of 2:22.750; he was then followed by TA2 points leader Lawrence, in the #11 Ctek/Motorstate/NorthStar Battery Chevrolet Camaro, and two-time defending TA2 Champion Bob Stretch, in his #98 Wheels America/Fix Rim Mobile Chevrolet Camaro.
TA3 was led by David Seuss in the #9 Northern Light Porsche 996 GT3, while first timers Steve Kent, Jr., in the #17 XLR8Deisel Trucks/SKS Equipment Ford Mustang, and Rich Jones, Driver of the #37 JOMAC Bodies and Cranes/Deb’s Peppers Ford Mustang, followed to round out the top 3 in TA3. The three drivers finished in the same order in the first session of the day as well.
All drivers will be hoping for better weather come tomorrow for the qualifying session at 11:15 a.m. EST. The Trans Am race will follow on Sunday at 3:15 p.m. for Round Four of the 2013 Trans Am Series.
