Qualifying session postponed due to conditions

RJ Lopez leads contingent of drivers on track

The Trans Am Series’ return to “Fast Five” qualifying will have to wait, as rainy conditions at Sebring International Raceway saw today’s qualifying session declared a practice. In turn, tomorrow’s session at 11:50 AM ET, originally slated as a practice and second chance to qualify, has been reclassified as a full qualifying session in preparation for the FOAMETIX Trans Am 100 on Sunday.

The rain, however, did not prevent a handful of drivers from taking to the track. The participating contingent was led by RJ Lopez, in the No. 16 Optica Lopez Chevrolet Corvette, with a fast lap of 2:07.135. Following Lopez in second position was Paul Fix, in the No. 4 StopFlex.com/TheCarCoach.com Chevrolet Corvette, with a time of 2:07.243, while Jim McAleese, in the No. 03 McAleese & Associates/Jetco Chevrolet Corvette, was third with a time of 2:12.442.

In TA2, Tommy Archer showed off his talent from behind the wheel of the No. 49 Archer Racing/TNM Chevrolet Camaro with a 2:13.364 despite the wet conditions. Shane Lewis, in the No. 72 74 Ranch Resort Chevrolet Camaro, was second best in the class with a 2:13.526 and Jordan Bupp, in the No. 81 American Speed Factory Ford Mustang, was third with a 3:14.929.

TA3 was led by Jason Berkeley in the No. 67 BMG Management Chevrolet Corvette with a time of 2:26.246. Milton Grant, in the No. 55 Courtyard Hotel By Marriot Porsche 997 GT3, was second with a 2:39.896, Thomas Ellis, in the No. 00 Palm Express/Averitt/Steeda Ford Mustang, was third with a 2:46.489.

Trans Am will return to the track at 11:50 AM ET for qualifying. The FOAMETIX Trans Am 100 will take place at 2:45 p.m. ET on Sunday, March 1, 2015, for Round 1 of the 2015 Trans Am Championship.
